Iraq War Protesters Disrupt Chicago Mass
CHICAGO (AP) Six Iraq war protesters disrupted an Easter Mass on Sunday, shouting and squirting fake blood on themselves and parishioners in a packed auditorium.
Three men and three women startled the crowd during Cardinal Francis George's homily, yelling "Even the Pope calls for peace" as they were removed from the Mass by security guards and ushers.
One Mass attendee, Mike Wainscott of Chicago, yelled at the anti-war protesters.
"Are you happy with yourselves?" he said. "There were kids in there. You scared little kids with your selfish act. Are you happy now?"
The group, which calls itself Catholic Schoolgirls Against the War, said in a statement after the arrests that they targeted the Holy Name Cathedral on Easter to reach a large audience, including Chicago's most prominent Catholic citizens and the press, which usually covers the services.
Kevin Clark of International Solidarity Movement told the Chicago Tribune that he attended the Mass to serve as a witness for the protesters.
"If Cardinal George is a man of peace and is walking the walk and talking the talk, he should have confronted George Bush and demanded an immediate end to the war," Clark said.
Speaking after the service, George said, "We should all work for peace, but not by interrupting the worship of God."
Police charged each of the six protesters with one count of felony criminal damage to property and two counts each of misdemeanor simple battery.
The six were scheduled to appear in bond court on Monday to face the felony charge, police said. They have court date set for March 31 on the misdemeanors.
(This version CORRECTS the genders of protesters. RECASTS to UPDATE with new details, comment from spokesman for protesters.)

International Solidarity Movement
Isn't that the same group of anti-Semitic whackjobs that Rachel "St. Pancake" Corey was part of when tried to use "The Force" to stop a IDF bulldozer ??

You would be correct. It's too damned bad they won't all dive under D-9s.

Always nice to see the classy side of people, celebrating civilian deaths, etc..

Stupid.

said in a statement after the arrests that they targeted the Holy Name Cathedral on Easter to reach a large audience grandstand more effectively
There... fixed it...
-
I am glad. It is time that the clergy start to listen to their demi-god the pope. We need more people, especially religious ones, to stand up and fight for peace.
-
Wow... I don't think I ever saw someone trying desperately to get banned...

Between quoting Chomsky, supporting BHO, and hating Christians as if they raped him as a child, I think he ought to change his name to Lenin. What say you?
-
If he's quoting Chomsky, why would he change his name to Lenin?
-
Let's see . . . disrupting Easter mass, squirting "blood" on church attendees . . . yep, that's a GREAT way to get people to support you.
Hopefully, one of these days they'll get the severe pummeling they so richly deserve.
-
If they wanted a large audience they should have waited by the doors and shouted their whatever as people left.
Stunts like this do nothing to help anyone's cause. They just make the people doing them feel powerful and righteous.
-
stand up and fight for peace
Isn't that what we're doing in Iraq and Afghanistan ??
-
OK, with the worst of the paens to pedophilia removed, I'll say this...
If you're wondering where your post, or parts of your post, went...
Don't.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Isn't that what we're doing in Iraq and Afghanistan ??
HAHAHAHAHAHA!
Let's see, in country "A" a fundementalist government that harbored international terrorists resposible for the deaths of 3,000+ Americans.
Country "I" used its "non-existent" WMD's against it's own people. Invaded 3 out of 5 of it's neighbors. In addition, defied the almighty UN 17 or 18 times plus violated other international agreements.
So yeah, That IS what were doing over there.
-
Haha, jokes about running protesters OK are acceptable, but Catholic schoolgirl jokes are beyond the pail.

Yes.

"Stunts like this do nothing to help anyone's cause. They just make the people doing them feel powerful and righteous."
you and i agree seldom but you nailed this one good!
and they serve to marginalize your cause/organization. the fact that they and the organization fail to see it is pitiful. and a sign of how out to lunch they are

[Elvis]Thank you. Thank you very much.[/Elvis]
It would never occur to me to disrupt some Wicca/Pagan/New Age/Muslim/Jewish/whatever service with protests against some political situation.
But, then, I was raised right.

so THAT'S how you get a felony?
"Are you happy with yourselves?" he said. "There were kids in there. You scared little kids with your selfish act. Are you happy now?"
and then they throw in "the children, the children".
good thing their not doing things like this in iraq, or no one would stand for it.

Get the bucket off your head.
Grown men making sexual references/allusions about CHILDREN does not further the best interests of this website, its members, its staff, or its owner.
If you don't like that you're more than welcome to go somewhere else.
In fact, I encourage you to go somewhere else.

Be smart, Wooderson.
It's not open to discussion. Don't bring it up again.
-
I am all for a united front on this board.
Wooderson-
I'm not sure what is going on here, but I will tell you that as the Father of a beautiful little three year old, if you, or anyone else, even so much as thinks about making a "joke" about molesting children, I'm going to ban your ass.
The internet is not real life, and I let a lot of BS slide.
Not that.
Not ever.
-
Ok... I'm GLAD I missed that action...

Got a united front, here, I would say.
I recall reading a couple months ago about some repeat offender who dragged a 6-year-old boy aside in a public library and raped them.
In my state, it's legal to use deadly force to prevent an act of sexual assault upon a third party, meaning you can legally shoot a rapist to stop them from raping someone. I can honestly say that if I ever saw such a thing occuring, it's the only instance I can think of where I'd have absolutely no reservations about or hesitation in pointing and firing a weapon at someone for a reason other than self-defense. And I would never regret it, either. That's not even a human being, at that point. Just evil that needs to be removed.
It's an evil that doesn't merit any jokes, either. Ever.

While I disagree with the ban on making pedo jokes, I have to agree with Maned. The ones that actually do commit those crimes are not people, just an evil entity that deserves immediate death.

Dumbasses
The current Pope calls for peace, he also isn't to anti Islam. Now think what you like of condemning other religions or not....but if there is one guy on Gods fine creation that should be doing it' it's the Pope lol. He's a fine guy, but lets not call him a beacon of biblically based thought and proclamations m'kay?
Peace is a Christian doctrine, but not at the expense of letting others murder and kill you.
Aside from that, these guys are idiots. Religious gathering or not, disrupting in this way is idiocy.
-
if you, or anyone else, even so much as thinks about making a "joke" about molesting children, I'm going to ban your ass.
That's not even remotely close to what either I or El Tejon said. I resent the implication greatly.
-
Read carefully, Wooderson.
He's not saying that you did.
He's warning you what will happen IF you do so.
I think I'm going to do a couple people a SERIOUS favor and close this thread right now before they end up hanging themselves.
Let's get something straight here, folks. At the end of the day, we're all here through the grace and generosity of one individual. He, in turn, has entrusted a number of us to run this place for him.
What does that mean?
Well, first and foremost, that means that this website is NOT a democracy, and it's not a "I can say anything I want because the Constitution is on my side" zone.
He has asked us to protect not only his good name and reputation, and the name and reputation of this board, by doing what we do.
I'll say this again... if anyone has a problem with that, they should not be here.
