Title: EU: Gun control strengthened after EU ministers approve Commission proposal
Post by: MicroBalrog on April 24, 2008, 04:28:37 AM
Brussels.  With the adoption of the European Commissions proposal for compulsory and complete marking of firearms, the EU Ministers of Justice and Home Affairs have given the green light to reinforce the fight against organized crime and firearms trafficking, the press service of the European Commission informs.
The new measures will extend the duration for record-keeping for data on firearms and ban the purchase of firearms by persons under the age of eighteen. This directive will ensure that traceability for all firearms is strengthened and rules for the acquisition and possession of them will be more rigorous. These requirements will also apply to converted weapons, the release stresses further.
According to teh information, the measures will align the pre-existing directive 91/477 on firearms with the so-called United Nations Firearms Protocol to which the Community acceded in 2001, opening the way towards its ratification. The Directive will enter into force 20 days after its publication in the Official Journal. Member States will need to adapt their relevant national legislation within two years following this publication. The approval of the Member States follows a positive vote in the European Parliament last year.
Commission Vice-President Günter Verheugen responsible for enterprise and industry policy welcomed the agreement in the Council that would ensure greater security in the trade of firearms.
"Citizens will be better protected against uncontrolled circulation of firearms, by beefing up our tracing systems and requirements, notably as regards minors, Verheugen said.

And, as usual, I'm sure the murderers, muggers, drug dealers, hired killers, smugglers, and sleeper-cell jihadists will all comply with the new regulations. rolleyes

And remember, the UN is NOT a threat to anybody's gun rights.

The more gun control in Europe the better...  grin

Afterall - when we run out of room here in the US it'll be all that much easier to - <insert evil laugh> -take over Europe, enslave the sheep and use their infrastructure for our own needs.

What I'm waiting for is for the "disaffected youth" in the Paris suburbs to move beyond the shotguns they've been taking shots at police with, and have an all-out sectarian war with smuggled-in AK's. I'm sure lots of sleeper cells in a lot of Europe already have stores of them.

The EUs will be shocked, absolutely shocked at the flagrant disregard of gun laws.

(I think the only place still well-armed is Northern Ireland. Most of the fighters did not surrender their SMGs and sniper rifles!)

Sure they will.
Yesterday I discovered that my local college seems to have a well-equipped machine shop. Time to get enrolled and start cranking out my own gear.

Already happening to some extent. A few years back some "disaffected youth" (immigrants who can't be bothered to fit into civilized society) harassed a girl in the streets of a larger Swedish city (can't remember which one right now). Her father got out, armed with a baseball bat and drove them away. Cops shows up, she follows them to the station to give her testimony. While she's in the cop shop, someone opens up on the police station with an AK-47. Fortunatly, they aimed at the wrong room. Emptied out an entire magazine against the station.
The worst part is one of the top criminologists in this country who refers to the incident as "pranks", commited by "young boys". The oldest of the gang who shot up the place was well into his 30's...I've got a burning desire to firebomb his home, his car, his place of employment etc. See if he still thinks its "just a prank". Since I'm white, and therefore racist be definition, I'm sure it will be considered a hate crime immediatly...

Suggested new UN motto?

"Silly peasant. Guns are for dictators."

That's what the Small Arms Treaty amounts to.

Sounds like Germany won, after all: all-encompassing socialism, disarmed peasants, and the "Jewish problem" has been solved.

So, quitting the UN is a bad idea, why?

It's not. The UN is our enemy. It exists to prop up and legitimize some of the bloodiest dictators on earth, it provides cover for scams worth billions of dollars, and it opposes everything America stands for.

This statue outside their building in NY is continually offensive. Especially given what nations are on their "human rights" council. Next year, it'll include Cuba, Saudi Arabia (public kangaroo-court executions are okay?), Nigeria, and China. China. A place where there's mobile execution vans.

That picture makes me want to show up in NYC in the middle of the night with a very large saws-all.   I think it'd be freaking hilarious if someone turned that revolver into a snubbie.

America should leave the UN.

When America leaves, the entire show will come crashing down.

Oh, we damn well agree. Except our politicians don't. All too many of them are too happy to give our money to the UN. And there are plenty of people here who love the UN...

Timewarp FTW.

You guys seem to be quoting an ancient TFL thread where this statue was brought up.
