0-60 in almost 14 seconds.

You would be smashed trying to merge onto most highways I know of.

"To sum up, then, it's a very expensive, very complex, not terribly green, slow, cheaply made, and pointless way of moving around."

I need to start watching these.

I hate these cars, too.

PS, next time someone goes on about their Prius, mention all the heavy metals and toxic chemicals in the batteries, and the waste produced in the production of same...

So much for being carbon-neutral. Plus a fun metal fire!

Two things.
1. What show is this from? Channel?
2. Did they just create a environmental disaster by shooting holes thru the Prius?

The show is Top Gear, a quirky British car review show that comes from BBC.

Yeah, they probably did create a minor environmental disaster by shooting up the Prius.  But I suppose it was no worse than many of their other antics.  Like, say, turning a Plymouth into a reusable orbital vehicle, or dropping a house on a Toyota pickup.

That was a Reliant Robin, and the launch was rather impressive. They got to several thousand feet.

Sad thing is, that's the closest the UK's ever had to a space program.

I like the suggestion of a golf diesel instead.  Given that I mostly drive highway, it makes the most sense for me.

pffffffftt.  Diesels stink, they have no power, and the fuel is more expensive than gasoline.

They don't stink anymore, and no power?  Yeah, that's why they use them for semis,  to haul freight, and put them in tanks.

It is more expensive than gas, but diesel engines like those in the VW Golf actually do get 60mpg, unlike the Prius. So while it may cost you $0.50 more a gallon, you'll be using far less in the first place.
