Title: George Lucas calls Obama a "Hero in the making".
Post by: Manedwolf on June 04, 2008, 07:19:25 AM
We all knew he was going downhill when the film was revised so Greedo shot first.

George Lucas has created legendary film heroes like Luke Skywalker and Indiana Jones, but the US director says that in real life, his hero is Barack Obama.

Lucas was in Japan on Wednesday to promote his latest film, "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," as Obama clinched the Democratic Party's nomination for president.

"We have a hero in the making back in the United States today because we have a new candidate for president of the United States, Barack Obama," Lucas said when asked who his childhood heroes were.

Obama, "for all of us that have dreams and hope, is a hero," Lucas said.

Lucas is the creator of the blockbuster "Star Wars" series, as well as the adventures of the swashbuckling archaeologist Indiana Jones, played by Harrison Ford.

Obama on Tuesday sealed the Democratic contest after a marathon battle with Hillary Clinton, becoming the first black White House candidate nominated by a major party.

George Lucas will be remembered as the man who ended movies for adults in America.  When STAR WARS became a mega-hit the moguls decided to push big budget cartoons.  A nation that loves Spiderman, Batman, and Ironman is a nation that needs to grow up.

The best film Lucas ever made was his first, THX 1138, a prescient view of what is probably coming to America one of these days.

I dunno, the first Star Wars was good (albeit bettered by ESB), and I cannot stand THX 1138.   He should stick to worshipping Kurosawa.

Wait. What's wrong exactly with Spiderman, etc.? How does liking movies about comic book heroes mean that I need to grow up? I'm not following.

Empire was good because Irvin Kershner didn't put up with Lucas' stupid ideas and directed it properly.

Anybody who is in anyway responsible for the recent cinematic travesty that is Indiana Jones 4 has zero credibility in my mind. Lucas can take his sheep like love for Obama and throw himself off a cliff.

Damn Indiana Jones 4 sucked....

So can we start calling him "Jar-Jar Obama"?

Hey, Lucas, I've got three words for you:  Howard.  The.  Duck.

Considering the actual amount of content in his speeches, that's not far off the mark.

I don't have anything against comic books, but it is depressing that hollywood can't come up with anything original. All they make, besides cartoons, and horrible movies based on cartoons, is comic book movies, sequals, and terrible movies based on books.

I completely agree with this. Hollywood doesn't come out with much that's original.

Just because Obama is their nominated and first black candidate, doesn't have anything to do with winning the general election.  Just ask John Kerry and many others.  Conservatives will join together and keep this ultra liberal out of the most important office in the world.  Just remember experience means something...and Obama has very little, where Senator McCain has much.

Well Anakin was the hero too until some Ted Kennedy analogue got to him.

Hump, Chris.  Lecherous hump.   smiley

I thought the word "hero" was being devalued.  But this is a whole 'nother level of devaluation.  shocked

My last bit of respect for Lucas just died a horrid painful death.

I agree there also.  What has he done that could even come close to being heroic?

He used the Jedi mind trick on a massive scale. That's pretty impressive.

Can the GOP bumper sticker "Mind tricks dont work on me, only money" be too far behind?

I thought Iron Man was pretty good.

I think the real reason comic book movies are coming in now is that CGI these days allows them to show all the effects as they want to.  Most of those hero movies in the 70's were pretty lame by comparison.  Of course, the downside of CGI is making the movies feel completely unreal.

I agree on Hollywood's general lack of creativity.  Comic book stories come with ready made plots and storylines for the first movie and sequels.

Back on the original topic, there is absolutely nothing new about Hollywood elites falling in love with the liberal candidate.

And nothing new about George Lucas selling myth.  I think he has Obama confused with Gilgamesh and Beowulf.

Most of the Obama supporters aren't educated enough for that.  I think they see Obama as Rufus, Bill, and Ted all roled into one, but instead of the Wild Stallions, it will be his Presidency that will bring the universe into harmony.

Surely, all of you have heard of Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.  Cheesy

Wouldn't that be like someone over 50 saying Brett Favre was their childhood hero?

The only thing heroic in Barack is his uncanny ability to avoid Michelle's rolled-up NY Times.  He's back to smoking cigarettes, I hear.  He's done with the greenies.
