Title: Will Heller hurt McCain's chances?
Post by: Pb on June 30, 2008, 01:40:42 PM
Will Heller v. DC hurt McCain's chances of being elected by helping the neutralize fear of Obama's stances on guns?

I think any reduction in concern over new Obama gun control will be offset by a greater concern over Obama supreme court nominations.

Yeah, McCain could definitely play this to his advantage with the nomination of justices angle.

He could also browbeat Obama for coming out in favor of what turned out to be a violation of civil rights.

Of course, that's just wishful thinking.

That we came within one vote of a de facto repeal of the Second Amendment ought to give McCain plenty to work with--if he does his homework.

if anything it will help.

There are the justices to worry about.  One flaming liberal and any future cases could be shot.

I wasn't voting for Obama but I wasn't exactly voting for McCain either......Heller may have pushed me to McCain because of the thin margin of the Heller case.  Yes McCain may very well appoint middle of the road folks but I think it is a given Obama would appoint way way way way the hell over there left judges.

Heller will help Obama, because gun-Nazis must be stopped.

That's the endgame, with new SCOTUS, cluster until then, different decision.

The "AK47 next door" argument will win.

Anyone know which, if any, justices are likely to retire during the next presidential term?

Only among idiot liberals. The local paper here is full of reader comments that every law abiding citizen does have the right to have a gun to defend themselves with, and even that semiauto rifles are not "assault" anything.

At least here, I see a widely spread rejection of the leftist antigun agenda.

Noted.

But the next POTUS gets three members of the SCOTUS, first term.  We'll get young, long-term, non-conservatives.  Eventually, Heller will be meaningless...

I do not see McCain winning.
