Title: The Guardian flips out
Post by: agricola on August 18, 2008, 09:06:51 AM
Worth reading, for a laugh if nothing else.  I guess that pseudo-debate must have gone down even worse in the pro-Obama camp than it first appears:

Wow.  That level of stupidity takes real skill.

And yet Obama is leading. Imagine how much they'd whine if he were losing.

Not by much, he isn't. It's like someone running full out while McCain just paces leisurely, and they're not even a few paces ahead.

The lead is just about within the margin of error, even!

You know, for someone who accuses John McCain of being a whiner...

The author is doing a LOT of whining...

The writer looks a lot like a young Alec Baldwin - maybe he really did leave the country Wink

Quote
Most surprisingly of all to me, [McCain] has demonstrated over and over his lack of a grasp of, and in many cases even a passing interest in, the details of policy. Here is a man who's been a national legislator for a quarter-century. He has clearly been interested in a few things, mostly having to do with military and foreign policy, and to a certain extent energy policy. But there are dozens more realms with which responsible Solons ought to have acquainted themselves over 25 years. McCain seems to have glided through the Senate without even bothering to learn very much at all about fiscal and economic policy, healthcare, social policy (which is an umbrella rubric covering a dozen different things) and a lot of other topics. His campaign, and his partisans, accuse Obama of being a lightweight. But in truth, McCain is the policy lightweight.

Yeah, but McCain probably has a better guess about how many states there are in the USA Tongue  And he probably knows the difference between American voters and German voters  rolleyes

Really, I think Obama would be very good as president - of the EU  grin

I'm not convinced Obama is winning.  The major pollsters all have it as a statistical tie, and one cannot discount the fact that polls consistently over-estimate the number of people who will vote for a black candidate by some 5% or 10%.

It's also a good 3 months until the election.  Polls at this point are pretty meaningless.  There's absolutely no way to tell who's going to win at this point in time.

Barack is barely leading within the margin of error, despite the press being in the tank for him and despite the conservative base being very leery of McCain.

Pretty pathetic.

I saw a little of the Rick Warren shindig the other night.  BHO would make a fine Graduate Student in Chief, whereas McCain would make a fair Commander in Chief.

<shrug> Even if the author is correct (and that's a big IF) who cares. A brit (isn't he? - American abroad?) writing about US politics in a brit news rag is a big snooze. Why is it surprising to anyone here that the sniveling, socialist whiners of the UK and Europe in general would be Obama supporters.

What's surprising to me is that they take time to actually write their drivel. It's not like they get to vote in our elections.

Won't happen unless more people did what Ireland just did.

I hope, at least, that people in your country saw the EU reaction to the vote. "NO! Bad Ireland! You voted wrong! Do it again!"

Right now our biggest problem is immigration. Malmö (third largest city in the country) could very well be a suburb of Bagdad. Or Mogadishu Tongue. We need to fix THAT problem first Tongue.
Also, I doubt our benign rulers will let us vote about it. We voted "wrong" ( rolleyes) in regards to the Euro. Close call for a while though, what with a foreign minister who stupidly got herself stabbed to death by some psycho (she was quite high-profile, and went out shopping without a security detail, which I believe she had access too). I feared that the "Yes" side would get tons of sympathy votes because of that. Didn't happen, which I figure shows the people of my country still has some measure of intelligence and independent thought.

Uhhhh....

What?

No you di-in't...

Say that?

No way?

An enlightened Euro decrying immigration by a people that just want better lives for themselves? How un-EU of you. Why, why??? That brings tears to my eyes. What is happening to the world? We're all doomed I say...

DOOMED!

Just kidding. Best of luck solving the problem. We in the USA may need some pointers along the same lines if you're successfull.

Hey, the main problem over here is that, surprise, the politicians don't listen to the people who vote for them. All the big parties (seven of them, all of them more or less Social Democratic (sic)) favor virtually unlimited immigration of the worst we can scrape from the bottom of the barrel. Illiterates and Islamic Rage Boys? No problem. The issue is power. An illiterate goat herder from Somalia will never ever find any job here that he's qualified for (not much demand for goat herders), and often they won't even learn the language, other than the mandatory "I'm discriminated, give me teh moneys!".

So what's left for them other than living on welfare? And who'll provide them with welfare if they vote for them? The bloody Social Democrats that is! Win for all, except for us Swedes, but we don't count any more! Oh no,  we are just to shut the *expletive deleted*ck up, pay our taxes to support the leeches, get robbed, beaten, raped and murdered in the name of multiculturalism and continued Social Democratic rule!

Next election might turn out good for us though. We have a party, while they are very much like old school social democrats, they also recognize that, you know, the obvious, we who live here don't want the *expletive deleted*ing multicultural mess that the other parties have gotten us into. They won't be big enough to form government themselves, but they'll basically sell their votes in parliament to whatever coalition that gives them what they want - complete stop on "refugee" immigration to begin with (All in all, at most only 10% of those given residency permits here are actual refugees. The rest...).
Large scale deportations would be nice, but I'm only wishing there.

Enlightened my ass. From your point of view compared to many other Europeans, sure. I'm in favor of unregulated gun ownership, small government, fewer taxes, fewer regulations etc. OTOH, I figure most of my countrymen consider me to be a psychotic fascist, and racist too! rolleyes rolleyes

Also, small light at the end of the tunnel! Last week a rather well known criminal who'd resided (never became a citizen, thank Odin!) in the country since 1985 got his residency permit revoked, after he fled back to Turkey to avoid what goes for justice here laugh grin. Now if we could only order to have him shot on sight if he shows his face here again, and everything would be perfect...

I wouldn't want to wish that upon my country. I love it deeply, I just happen to hate the people in charge (both the current and most of the past). We'll see how everything turns out. Might be salvation for us yet smiley.

How did Sweden get from people who crossed the North Atlantic in storms in freaking OPEN BOATS...to this?

Good question. Social Democratic lust for eternal power is probably one reason. Take Palme for example, born into the upper class, saw that the social democrats were the easiest way to get power. Then things just happened one after another. The politicians realized that when the working class got more well off, they would be hesitant to vote leftist again.

So like the vampire, they needed new blood to keep them alive. They got this through unchecked immigration of people who will probably never contribute anything to this society. Likewise with their children, who are probably chucking cobblestones at ambulances as we speak. They graduate, or atleast leave school without having learnt even the basics, and they speak an incomprehensible ghetto accent that will make them even more unemployable.

Voting cattle is a good term for it. We imported voting cattle, although officially it was because they were poor, persecuted refugees (10% at the most have actual refugee status). Voila, the new, exciting, multicultural Sweden came into existance in less than 3 decades. What would we ever do without multiculturalism? How would we ever survive without street gangs, 15-year olds robbing banks, gang rapes, brutal assaults, murders and an ever growing mass of idiots idolizing American hiphop/rap culture, with all the *expletive deleted*it that follows with that?

Yes, we certainly have a new, exciting Sweden. Teachers are assaulted. Ambulances/firetrucks are bombarded with fireworks and cobblestones. A subway station in an exciting, multicultural enriched suburb of Stockholm had to close because of gangs shooting fireworks, starting fires and assaulting people. A police station in Södertälje just outside Stockholm got the majority of a mag from an AK47 fired through a window to an interogation room next to the one where they were interviewing the victim of a crime. Isn't that exciting?

I got to get me some weapons methinks.

They don't use it for robbing people, only to cause damage. Want fireworks exploding in your face while you're waiting for the subway train to come, or when you are trying to save some poor bastard who's lying in a pool of his own blood? Want cobblestones 4x4x4 inches hurled at you? That's assault with a deadly weapon, and we really should let soldiers escort the firetrucks/ambulances, with orders to terminate any scum who picks up a stone or a lighter.

I can't even imagine the shitstorm that would follow a decision like that. Personally, I'd have the ambulances escorted by an armored vehicle or two, armed with a .50 cal on the roof. Anyone throw a stone, and the EMT's will be working overtime...

So wait... in your country, deploying mechanized infantry with the EMTs is politically viable, giving the EMT's an M1 carbine each is not?

That is even worse. I just said what I'd want to see. Considering the times we are living in, plus the fact that we had an old law that prevented the military from assisting in police work overturned, I wouldn't be surprised if we'll see stuff like this. Also, while I'm all in favor for honest people's right to defend themselves, I'd be wary of having the EMT's having a folding stock M1 Carbine on their backs when they are giving first aid. Would be too much of a target for the shitheads. I do support them carrying concealed for when the *expletive deleted*it truly hits the fan though, but I'd prefer to let some hardcore veterans serve as  fire support/escort for them.
