It's canadian, right?
Looks like a snowmobile hobbyist project for summer that somehow got mass-marketed with shiney paint. =D

You almost make it sound like that is a bad thing :D

They have three of them for sale at my local Yamaha/CanAm dealership. I have actually seen a couple of them on the road up here. Almost as wide as a car but a little shorter. I am not sure what their target market is, perhaps people who feel unsafe riding a conventional motorcycle, at least from the balancing standpoint.
-
Definitely looks like the love child of a snowmobile and a motorcycle. Not that that's a bad thing though. Interesting to say the least.

A vid: http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/video/video_player.shtml?vid=188137 (http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/video/video_player.shtml?vid=188137)
On wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Can-Am_Spyder (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Can-Am_Spyder)
Seems pretty cool. Anti-lock breaks, cornering ability, reverse gear, not much experience needed. Only fiftee- WAIT A MINUTE! $15000!!! Yeah, its not really worth it.
And it only goes 110mph according to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s40RtrK3lN0 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s40RtrK3lN0)

FL....you did the same thing I did...I want entertaining seleling my Impala to get one...then I saw the price....
-
I've seen a few of them running around here. If not Can-Am, something almost identical.
Chris
-
I've seen the same here - if not a Can-Am, then a clone or simultaneous development.
We'll see how well they do this winter during the blizzards. =D
-
Don't really see the point of those, myself. They don't cost less than a cheap sub-compact car, and get about the same MPG. They also aren't quite as nimble as a motorcycle, so giving up all the safety features and storage space you get with a car for it seems like a bad trade off. Its like they took all of the downsides of driving a motorcycle and combined them with all of the downsides of driving a compact car.
-
I don't think it looks all that bad, only different. As for handling, I'd bet it handles pretty darn well.
The price? A lot of people pay 15K for motorcycles everyday, and you'll rarely see any of them going 110 mph.
-
Interesting....I'd try one of those if it were street-legal....
-
It is street legal.
-
Supposedly, and please don't ask me to cite it, but I think I remember reading that it rides smooth like a touring bike, but handles like a sport bike...
-
Oh, and as far as a purpose, it would be great for me with my back...I'd love a regualar bike, but the jerking motion to get one even off it's kickstand would tweak my back....I look at it as a really cool convertable....

Apparently, they are somewhat of a pig to steer: http://www.biketestusa.com/Article_Page.aspx?ArticleID=7079
-
Huh?
It says even Wilma can steer it, and it has Dynamic Power Steering.
I didn't see anywhere in the review where they said it was a pig to steer, truthfully. :|
-
Oops, you are correct. I had read this review of an earlier model: http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/Article_Page.aspx?ArticleID=4456 and then read some forum posts about the steering. The sticky wicket is that it is steered like a car, rather than a motorcycle with lean. Several posts by motorcyclists commented on this and how it was more difficult to steer than a motorcycle.
