Title: Fires again
Post by: RadioFreeSeaLab on October 14, 2008, 01:05:07 PM
California is burning again.  One of my clinics is once again threatened.  The fire is 50% contained now, though, so I think things will be OK.  Apparently this big lady is flying low and slow over the area.  And I'm 40 miles away in my data center missing the view.  Poop.

Didn't that plane clip a wing on some trees last year and almost go down?

Do you realize that its like $30-50K for that plane to make one drop of fire retardant? I also learned that it really isn't that effective, more of a publicity stunt to keep the folks happy and off the Forest Services asses.

The whole California fires thing is stupid. If they let homeowners clear their land  and the state set controlled fires when there was moisture in the forest I'd bet alot of the fires would'nt be half as big as they are.

Absolutely right.
