Title: The math nobody is doing about Obama's plan for jobs and expanded government
Post by: Manedwolf on January 16, 2009, 02:20:12 PM
He's claiming he is going to add 3.7 million new jobs, at last speech. He says 90% of those will be private sector.

So. That's 370,000 new GOVERNMENT jobs.

When and if the economy recovers a bit, are they going to fire all those people? Or are we just expanding the government with another 370,000 government workers who will then need more supervisors and trainers and managers as well?

And why is nobody mentioning this, if so?

As much as I love picking a fight with a socialist plan... I'm certain that out of those 370,000 govjobs, half will be some degree of management.  From directors of new agencies to sector chiefs to office managers to groundskeeping supervisors.

And no... they will never be let go, and the jobs will never be downsized from the budget.

Did you not take your soma pill today?

I don't know. (Though my last post in the previous thread may have suggestions.)

However, it may be in my best interest to get one of those jobs...

I can see that this country is moving more and more towards socialism. The government will eventually employ the majority of people in this country. (2.7 Million strong... and growing!)

Maybe I ought to just give up and join the dark side now.

I've heard that "upto 80%" are to be private sector jobs.  So that leaves 370-740K+ job openings in the Obamajugend.

Bush has screwed things up so badly, that people are willing to do anything in the name of change.   People just aren't thinking well right now.

What's this I hear? The GOP is going back to being fiscally conservative after years of spending like drunken sailors when they had power. LOL

They didn't even cut the rates of growth of government spending programs when they had the chance, more less any programs.

Face it, it is never going to happen, they can't stop big spending. Government, and the private sector for that matter, must maintain a high level of debt or the whole house of cards collapses.

The economy is short of cash and credit, the only way to increase the money supply is to borrow more imaginary money.

" This is a staggering thought. We are completely dependent on the Commercial Banks. Someone has to borrow every dollar we have in circulation, cash or credit.

If the banks create ample synthetic money, we are prosperous; if not, we starve.

We are absolutely without a permanent money system.

When one gets a complete grasp of the picture, the tragic absurdity of our hopeless position is almost incredible, but there it is."
- Robert H. Hemphill, Credit Manager Federal Reserve Bank Atlanta, Georgia

Thats a good quote, but I would say that it is not almost incredible, it is incredible that the government continues to pay interest on money it could create and issue its self.

" I have never yet had anyone who could, thorough the use of logic and reason, justify the Federal Government borrowing the use of its own money... I believe that the time will come when people demand that this be changed.

I believe the time will come in this country when they will actually blame you and me and everyone else connected with Congress for sitting idly by and permitting such an idiotic system to continue."
- Wright Patman Democratic Congressman 1928-1976 Chairman, Committee on Banking & Currency 1963-1975

Sadly that time has never come and more than likely never will. Oh, people blame Congress, but not for the primary thing they should be blaming them for.

As a former drunken sailor I take exception to this. They spent our money like drunken politicians.

Really.

How many times has the US been attacked since 2001?

Are the lights still on? Is there food in the stores? Gas in the gas stations?

Are you living in a box?

Are you having to have armed carpools in case of looting mobs?

No?

Huh.

So you think anything short of TEOTWAWKI is ok?  Come on, we can still be doing bad without their being any of the end of the world scenarios you describe.  Look at your 401K and tell me things are going well.

They are, actually.

Why, did you make bad investment decisions that you're trying to blame Bush for? ???

We have a "right this second" supply chain that's very good at minimizing waste, but it'd would also be incredibly easy for Big Government to stick its foot in the gears and f it up by trying to "help".

Add to that initiatives to mess up power generation by forcing coalfired plants to close in favor of "green" crap, and it's time for rolling blackouts.

Tell me, that Goldwater book that you refer to so often.

Of the policies outlined there, which ones did Bush even try to implement?

He didn't.

But he also didn't try to implement the other book, the one Marx wrote.

Alright, well, yes. But not what's coming in terms of blatant distribution of wealth, I think. Those were egregious, but I think we're about to see the full force of "from each according to their means, to each according to their needs".

What is the book you're referring to, Mand?  Conscience of a Conservative is the only book by Goldwater that I'm aware of.  I haven't read it - is that what we're talking about?

That's the one, yes.

I've read it. Had a conservative suggested these policies today, he'd be eaten alive by his own party - not unlike the real Goldwater, of course.

Yes...and a very recommended read.

See, my logic is like this.

The Democrats are going to be socialists. That's in their nature.

In order for us to at least keep our ground, we need the Republicans to at least try and remove SOME of the programs of the Democrats when they get to be in charge.

Think of it as the old Lewis Carroll ditty - "You need to ran as fast as you can just to stay where you are!"

I remember back in '94 the Contract With America, for a couple of years there were modest decreases in the rates of growth of some programs, but no programs were actually cut or eliminated. Well, they said its Clinton he is vetoing everything, if only we controlled the White House as well as congress, then we would get our conservative agenda implemented. We all know that never happened either, the Bush administration and his  congress, spent more money in inflation adjusted dollars, than LBJ and his congress did.

So without going on and on about it, let me just pose one simple question to those of you who still believe Republicans will actually implement conservative ideas. When is it going to happen? I worked from 1980 to 2000 to help get Republicans elected, am I supposed to work and believe in them for another 20 or 40 years on the promise that this time they will do what there supporters sent them there to do?
