Title: Cure for a hyper dog?
Post by: Grandpa Shooter on February 09, 2009, 07:33:30 PM
We took one of the pups out to the camp last weekend and the poor guy just can't seem to relax.  Any of you have any experience with hperactive dogs?

Is it an ongoing issue, or just a negative reaction to a change in scenery? Maybe if he had some time to adjust he would calm down.

Also, are you extra anxious there? Maybe he's picking up your mood.

I had to get him off the bed to take my nap!

Relax, I am not always serious about things.  He weighs about 90 pounds at 9 months and is the most mellow dog I have ever seen.  It has to be the Ridgeback in him.  His sister is quite a bit more active and plays hard.  He is best buddies with my Black Lab chow mix.  When we go out for a walk on the land he stays with Bear most of the time.  If we call him he will come to us and then go back to keep Bear company as he limps along.  Great dog!

I've got one that's even lazier.

Throw a pork chop in front of him, and he just stares at it...

He's so lazy, it's pathetic.

Good for the lazy dog that needs exercise/motivation, OR the hyper dog who needs to be worn out for your own sanity...

I know there's tennis ball wrist-rocket slingshots but the ultimate failure of those is you need to pick up the slobbered ball. The Chuck-it just scoops it right back off the ground.

I watched Boone and his sister playing earlier today and saw the span of his jaws wide open.  I have to admit I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of those teeth.  He is mixed with Lab and seems to be quite the calm one.  Bear, the Black Lab Chow has turned the watchdog duties over to Boone and seems to be enjoying retirement.

damn, in the early eighties I cut through a neighbor's backyard and got bit in the ass by a chained up great dane.  It did not break the flesh but I had welts that were about ten inches apart.  Had I had much of an arse at the time, the dog might have gotten more of a mouthful of me.

This did break skin.  Which required an embarssing ER visit with a very hot ER doctor.   And then she paraded some medical students through to look at my ass.
I've got a great picture.....don't make me post it.....

If the picture has the ER doctor, post it.  Just crop out the parts with you in it.  :D
