Title: 2006 Chinese SUV performs "rather poorly" in Euro crash tests...
Post by: Sindawe on November 10, 2005, 08:32:27 AM
Rather poorly as in totally failed. http://landwind.bootnetworks.com/

Videos of crash tests can be found here. http://priuschat.com/New-Chinese-SUV-gets-00-on-Crash-Ratings-t11585.html

Granted, the SUV looks to be a copy of the Izuzu Rodeo from the early 90s.  I'm AM suprised as how badly the Ford F150 (2003 model) did.  But then, it IS a Ford, a make that is known for bursting into flames with out warning while parked.  http://www.armedpolitesociety.com/viewtopic.php?id=736

Nothing on that page looks too scientific to me, more like someone snapped some pics in a lab and gave nothing but opinions.

Can't the Chinese come up with a single original idea of their own.  The don't have engineers over there, they have thiefs and reverse engineers.

That's definitely a bad idea to debut with a deathtrap. But then again, the F-150 in those photos did not look significantly better.

Greg,

The Chinese are just tired of the rest of the world stealing their ideas for the past 5000 years Wink

I think I'd take my chances in a barrel full of rusty razorblades and kerosene rolling between the lane dividers on I-35 instead of a Chinese knockoff of a marginally adequate of a vehicle I wouldn't buy when it was new.

That airbag is a real killshot. I broke C7 about 5 years ago when an airbag went off in my face.

I'm sure inexpensive new vehicles have a place. How much is YOUR life worth?

Regards,
Rabbit.

No, there are lots of engineers from China.  And they are all across the river in West Lafayette!:D

Those famous F-150 shots are of the previous generation, the newer one is much improved.

The issue is that the chassis is *too* stiff and the barrier impact tests tend to focus force above the frame, bending it down in the middle and crushing the cab.

EDIT: Holy mother of pearl, are you sure that Landwind test was just 40mph?

I've never seen a crashtest that looked like it'd pop a human's abdomen like a grape before...
