Title: Hey Kali people...
Post by: 280plus on June 11, 2009, 07:15:09 AM
it's pronounced Bar-stOH like "row your boat" not Bar-stOW like "OW that hurts".

Right?

I've always heard it prounounced "Bar-stOH".

"Bar-stOW" sounds too Eastern.

That's the way it's pronounced in the song, "Route 66." I'm sure that the record company wouldn't have let Chuck Berry mispronounce it. (Although nobody stopped Bruce Springsteen from implying that Ohio shared a border with Canada).

They do. It's just a wide border, filled with water. States that are separated by a river are considered bordering states, right?

Who knew Virginia shared a border with Portugal? (And Spain, and Morocco....)

Seein' as how the Sandusky and Leamington areas both offer lots of lake-based recreation opportunities, including way out to Peelee Island almost in the middle of the lake, I don't think that a reference to the Ohio/Canada border is much of a stretch at all.

Zach, I don't think that Springsteen was taking water into account when he sang about a guy driving over the Canadian border.
