Title: Jimmy Carter wasn't all bad as President
Post by: RocketMan on October 12, 2009, 10:56:09 PM
President Carter signed legislation legalizing the home brewing of beer.

From the Association of Brewers:

On October 14, 1978, President Carter signed House Resolution 1337. Senate Amendment 3534 to that resolution called for equal treatment of home beer brewers and home winemakers. This law allowed for brewing up to 100 gallons per adult or up to 200 gallons per household per year. The amendment was proposed by Senator Cranston of California, Senator Schmitt of New Mexico, Senator Bumpers of Arkansas and Senator Gravel of Alaska.

Making beer is actually quite easy and educational to boot.  It's science!

Whenever I see articles about freshmen college kids getting alcohol poisoning from slamming hard liquor I start to think that colleges should offer home-brewing classes at the freshman level.  That way nobody needs to get a fake ID, they have plenty of beer which you can't really OD on, and they learn a quasi-useful skill in the process.

Not the best idea I've ever had but there it is.

Hey, if you tasted Billy Beer you'd want someone to try to improve upon that at home too!

I was 3 or something, so I didn't try it, dad still has an intact 6 pack somewhere just for the collectible lulz.

4chan didn't invent it; a bunch of Quake players did back in the 90s.  Or, at least, they formalized it.  It has roots going back to bulletin boards from the 80s.

Yep.  The 1337 h4x0r stuff still lives on but the 3LiT3 (ELITE) typing pattern died off by the time the internet became big.  Or maybe it was just a regional thing in my area. H4D A L0T OF P30PL3 TYP3iNG L1K3 THiS B4CK iN TH3 DAY!

FWIW, Obama, but not by much.

Yes, but Carter had four years to achieve his notoriously lousy reputation. Obama still has at least three years and two+ months to achieve historic new lows. He can do it. All we have to do is believe ...

If I were a few years older, I'd add LBJ to the list....

Carter is a standout in the annals of governing.  I didn't think it possible Carter's record would be surpassed.  But evidently it will be in glorious fashion.

Richard M. Nixon

Not even close! Other than his interference with the free market - wage and price controls - Dick wasn't too bad.

Truman (attempting nationalization of industry during Korean war), LBJ (Viet Nam, his War On Poverty, etc.), Carter (Panama Canal, Iran, Central America, etc.) and now BHO (pick 'most anything) are all pretty far down there. Ford could have been but was, overall, pretty ineffective, so almost doesn't count. GWB spent like a drunken sailor, played the game to the so-called center, and generally had too soft a spine to deal with the leftists. If he'd had Bill Clinton's (or Hillary's) balls, he'd have done well, I think.

Bill Clinton, it's said, wasn't the worst president we've had but he was the worst person we've had as a president. Until now, that is. BHO will set the new low record for the person and the job rating.
