Title: Christmas dinner guilt thread
Post by: El Tejon on December 25, 2005, 02:08:59 PM
Moo.  Oh, man, did I overdo it.  Overate and playing with the nephews on a bloated stomach wore me down.

After fruit and quiche for Christmas breakfast, with plenty of nuts, popcorn and fruits set out all day while we played with the new stuff, we then had quail, turkey, ham and 2 big slabs of fish with pepper sauce with eggplant, squash, green beans, yams, corn, fresh Amish bread and honey, potatoes, even more fruit and, of course, blueberry and pumpkin pie for dessert.

On the positive side I did manage to avoid the ham and blueberry pie and limited the damage to myself with only one slice of pumpkin pie, but I have just *ahem* a bit of Christmas guilt to work off on the treadmill this week.Cheesy

Your guilt?

Apfel Streussel (fresh homemade) for breakfast with coffee.
Eggs Benedict with cantalope and Mimosas for lunch.
Hash browns (Rösti) with smoked salmon for dinner.

No kids around.  Don't know whether that's a Smiley or a Sad

I never feel guilty for enjoying life. Smiley

I did burn an apple pie, for which I have some remorse.

NOOOOOOOOOO!! shocked

Wait, how burnt are we talking?

I tried my best to not over do it. But between the lasagna and the little old Italian ladies pressuring me to eat more and more (in between telling me I'm too fat), the ham and the real live Italian pastries we don't get very often. It wasn't easy!

Let me give you a quick example:

"You're getting too fat! You better start watching your weight. Would you like another piece of pie?"

"Um, no thanks."

"Don't you like pie?"

"I love pie."

"Then why don't you have another piece?"

"You just told me I'm getting too fat. Besides I'm full."

"Are you SURE you don't want another piece?"

"Yes I'm sure."

"Is there something wrong with it?"

 " rolleyes "

Oh, and not to forget the incredulous look I got when, after getting AWAY from the table at 4 PM, I declared I didn't want a sandwich at 6 PM.

Cheesy

Not so burned that I couldn't have a piece of it for breakfast. I don't feel guilty about that, either. Smiley

I had the traditional Jewish fare: Chinese food.  Seriously.  We have a tradition of Chinese food on Christmas.

Broccoli beef for me.  I'm not regretting it, but everybody else is Smiley

LOL, I'll admit to a piece of that previously mentioned pastry for breakfast...

Chinese food is next week on New Years Day. Also somewhat of a tradition...

I prepared a tasty "brunch" breakfast burrito with a side of biscuits and gravy..
the burrito started with some finely diced potatoes o'brian pan fried to golden perfection.. just as they were done I added a couple of spoonfulls of Pot Belly Peppers *(ok these guys make THE best peppers in oil!! http://potbelly.com/  you can get them in a small jar for $7 or a gallon jug for $20)
once they had a nice warm exposure in go 4 eggs whipped with eggnog (Pennsylvania Dutch Smiley )
pairing the matrix together was a generous handfull of shredded cheeses...
and since I had accidently used up all my sourcream on the Ranch dip.. I used a couple spoonfuls of the Ranch dip spread over the awaiting warm tortilla.

The biscuits and gravy is a closely held secret of culinary cleverness.. all this served with the usual comestibles.

This meal stuck with us ALL day.. I think it grew so I didn't eat anything else .. besides the artichoke spinach dip and con queso Smiley

*I think the leftover burrito this morning with the gravy IN the eggs was even better Cheesy

God bless this country!

I'll lay the guilt trip on all of you........

Not feeling that great myself, I got to stay home with a sick 5-year old, (fever/cough/congestion), while SWMBO got to go to her sister's for the ham, turkey, sausages, sweets, et al.   Kidlet stayed in bed most of the day, not even wanting to play with the mountain of toys under the tree.

At least wifey brought home a small sampler platter, which included a large piece of homemade apple pie....

On second thought, I got to stay home, eat snacks, watch football, and avoided the In-Law's for once!   cheesy

Fresh ham and meatloaf sandwiches, home made potato salad and baked beans.
Home made sea foam, chocolate and peanut butter chunks,  and chocolate bark.
Several cheezy dips and salsa.  Boston cream pie.

I topped that off late last night with a couple of glasses, 3 fingers each, of a fine Irish Whiskey, Black Bushmills.
