Title: Christmas Tree Rocketry: The Art and Science of Holiday Recycling
Post by: RocketMan on January 08, 2010, 05:41:52 PM
These guys did something a wee bit different when they recycled their Christmas tree.   Don't try this at home, kiddies.

The Youtube video is here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCjHV63MQ4w)

That was pretty neat .
Why am I thinking of ways to weaponize this? =D

Now that was a majestic sight.  I like how the pointy part of the star skewered into the ground.

hey, that's pretty cool! went up pretty straight too, considering the lack of fins, or... uh, aerodynamics of any sort. didn't go up in flames like the 15 or so christmas trees i torched with my buddies, though...

They should have used direct multi-stage engines.

Basically, we're using rocket acceleration systems to propel the gospel of Jesus Christ to heathens in the hopes that they'll become saved in the moments before they are vaporized.

I forwarded it to a buddy of mine and he said something to the effect of, "So, you can use differential equations fro something other than just passing a differential equations exam."

To which I responded, "They come in handy in my engineering work, too, since there are few engineering problems solved by 18th century French lit or critical race studies."

That was damn find work getting thirty-two D-12-0's to all go off with that high a degree of simultaneity.

Another method is to use flash pans.  That is pretty cool.  I've seen it done with over a hundred small rockets, Mosquitos IIRC.

Lightning round question:  Tell me the mass of the tree from the info presented in the video!

That was pretty cool.  =)

Well, it's outside my area of expertise, but I believe a Midnight Mass is traditional.
