Title: Snowmageddon, the pictoral
Post by: Jamisjockey on February 07, 2010, 02:48:39 PM
Unless you've had your head buried in the snow this weekend, you know that the East coast has gotten the Mother of All Snowstorms.  CasaDeJockey has gotten about 21", and our town got about 23".  Its deep, fluffy, wet and cold.  Here's a few pics of the carnage:

the drive way, pearl was light enough to stay on top of the ice layer in the middle for the most part.

i didn't manage to get a picture of her when she would break through the ice layer and go sprawling in snow up to the back of her shoulders. but that particular burst of racing did end up with her landing face first in a snowbank.  ;/

I didn't take many pics this time, but here's a few from the Allen household. :)

Our new puppy playing in the snow Friday night.  It was only 6" or so at this point:

View from my front door about mid-morning after the first shoveling of the day (and 3rd since snowfall began):

Miley's bathroom facilities.  This was late morning, by the end, there was another 6" on top of that.  For her, it's like standing at the base of a glacier.

BTW, Miley, a 2lb Havanese puppys, loves the snow.  She romps around in it, runs around, digs, etc.  Crazy dog. :D

We've had several broken trees in the area, including one at the end of our cul-de-sac that blocked my neighbor's driveway.  Not knowing if her son (who would be around the next day with the snowblower) had a chainsaw, I cut it back past the edge of her driveway with my bow saw.  Ax-Men, here I come!

When I was out shoveling at 12pm yesterday, I heard several branches break in the surrounding area.  I think I heard one every 10 minutes for an hour.  I went inside just before the tree fell over.

Nope, since he didn't get a treaty a Copenhagen that would have instantly stopped Globual Woerming, it is Obama's fault.

This is the second time this has happened today. If it happens again, I'm going to have to take action.

dude, its not like they make theremal bikinis that hot women can just walk around the snow in.
and if they did, i highly doubt they would be walking around in J's neighborhood.

methinks you'll have to wait until spring thaw.

Went to NYC 2/4 for son's wedding. SWMBO decided to go via Amtrak, her 1st train ride. 2/6 PM found out return trip cancelled due to Nor'easter, no snow in NYC despite forecast. Rented car, 10hr drive home uneventful, roads had been well cleared by 2/7, except Berkley Co., WV!! Got stuck turning into our driveway @ 2300hrs. State plows had piled it up, naturally. I could walk on top of the snow, most of the way to the house, @ 220 lbs!.  Several people w/ plows said damnedest snow ever, crust half-way down, dense but not real wet!?!?!

We're up to 2 WHOLE INCHES this morning in Chicagoland area.  There was a line a Denny's for the free Grand Slam breakfast.  We had to wait 10 WHOLE MINTUES to get a seat, because the place was packed.  We had to park in the lot of the office space next door.

i've been stuck here since thursday night. all becuase my neighbor bill has all of a sudden decided that while he can plow everything else on the planet free of snow, our driveway is too much. nevermind the fact that he plows it when we don't want him too. but will he plow it so i can free my car. no, he goes into evil bill mood and leaves me stuck.

i'm seriously thinking of just hanging up the towel and going all out insane.

WANT OUT! and the only thing that prevents it is 1/5 of a freeking mile!

i've been stuck here since thursday night. all becuase my neighbor bill has all of a sudden decided that while he can plow everything else on the planet free of snow, our driveway is too much. nevermind the fact that he plows it when we don't want him too. but will he plow it so i can free my car. no, he goes into evil bill mood and leaves me stuck.

It sounds like he's mad at you.  Perhaps if you make him a batch of cookies, he'll be more cooperative.

in other news, i just got back from a recon of the driveway...

knee deep snow, thick and nasty snow for about 50 ft. (ok this is really rough guessing since i'm horrid at guesstmating distance) which continues around the curve and down to the fork. then the rest is cut by the neighbors tire treads from his exterra, which is just a smidge too wide for my kia and the middle is just an inche or two too high.

if i could manage to get the car to the tire treads, i would probably be able to pull a crazy dumb driving stunt and get out tomorrow if the weather coperated. however, the latest blast is starting as we speak. and i still wouldn't be able to get kia from parked spot to tire treads.  =(

also walked a bit with bill, and he is adimate. the snow is to deep and too heavy and he won't do it. *sigh*

Dug my truck out earlier.  Snow in the bed to the bedrails, and packed into the passenger side tires.  Widened the driveway.  Cleared the back deck off last night.  I HATE SNOW.

Yeah, two competeing lows are swinging through.  Once they go offshore they are forcast to combine and become a nor'easter, which is what craps snow on this region, like the storm before christmas (16"), and the storm last weekend (23").  Forcast is for 7-14"...

dumped 11" in my yard.

I named the baby glacier in my front yard, Norm. He's taller than me now and I'm 5'11"

I'm trying to come up with a name for the baby glacier in my side yard.

That depends which side of Norm you are.

The unnamed glacier is North of Norm.

Been snowing pretty good here in Harpers Ferry today.  I tried to get to work but turned back after bout 3 miles of back roads.  Lots of drifts.  My F-150 with close to 800lbs of wood in the bed did its best but I didn't want to risk dodging the other drivers.  Turned back and am working remotely today.  Wind is blowing pretty good here.  I'd say we have about 6" of fresh snow on top of the 30" we got last weekend.

Chris

Mine is way to big for what I have to snowblow but I inherited from my parents when they moved from Minot, ND to Tulsa, OK.

I used to have a 100' and 50' foot driveway on 300' wide corner lot, it was great for that, but my little 25'x25' driveway is a little small, so I do a few of my neighbors also.
