Title: Drug induced movies
Post by: Monkeyleg on March 14, 2010, 11:27:54 AM
Every couple of months I come across a movie so gawdawful weird that I'm certain the entire cast and crew were doing drugs during its production.

Last night I rented "Dolans Cadillac." I was surprised when I looked at the DVD case to see that it was an 88 minute movie, but realized after watching that it could have been condensed to 10 minutes. There's more psychedelic weirdness to the film making than I've seen since some of the really trashy movies from the late 1960's.

Unfortunately, this isn't the first movie from what would seem to be a drugged up production crew that I've seen. There was one early last year with Cuba Gooding Jr. that made me decide to never again see one of his movies. The movie "He's Not There," which was supposedly about Bob Dylan, seemed like everyone was toking on some Jamaican doobies.

What's with this stuff?

As you can tell by her avatar, BW is quite the fan of Walter and the Dude.  Mark it zero, indeed.

I hate to admit this but I love this movie.  Yes, it was really bad but I love it anyway.

Brazil(1985) Trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Wh2b1eZFUM)

Well, it's a Gilliam film so weirdness and absurdity is to be expected.

On a somewhat related note, I have never tried recreational drugs (only alcohol, and no tobacco products either) but I watched Apocalypse Now while unable to sleep, even while exhausted, lying in bed - and it was the closest to 'tripping balls' that I have ever been.
Not sure why.

Try reading it.

As for "A Popsicle Now," that was a weird movie at a time when weird movies weren't very common. Trying to force the story of "Heart of Darkness" into a story about VietNam doesn't work very well.

Hamlet 2, a musical that totally does not make sense. But it's got some really catchy songs "Rock me rock me sexy jesus!".
Course it might be kinda stupid if you're not stoned.

One of these days I'll encounter GREASER'S PALACE on DVD.  Perhaps then I'll get handle on it, 'though I expect I'll need some excellent and extensive commentary from the DVD.  *sigh*

I was in college when Brazil came out.  I was a huge Monty Python fan and thought "This will be great !!"  Terry Gilliam and Michael Palin !!  So, it'll be like Holy Grail, Meaning of Life, and Life of Brian only better !!

Boy, was I disappointed.  Expecting MP silliness and getting, well.....Brazil.

It does, however grow on you.
