Sierra Nevada "Torpedo" Extra IPA (7.2% ABV) Very rich, very bitter, and has a nice chew to it. My previous favorites were Sierra Nevada "Bigfoot Ale" and Flying Dog Brewery's "Double Dog" Double Pale Ale, but both of them are almost too heavy and sweet (Double Dog is 11.5% ABV.)
I'm mentioning it because Torpedo and Bigfoot are seasonal brews and only available for a short time. They are out there now. Enjoy. [hic]

Tried it when I was in Gunnison a couple years ago. Waaaaaay too bitter for my tastes.

I'm not a fan of overly hopped extremely bitter beers. I have enjoyed some of Flying Dogs stuff though.
My current fav's come from the New Belgium brewery as well as a local guy about 45 minutes up the road, RJ Rockers.
We also have a nice local brewpub, Blue Ridge Brewing Co., unfortunately they don't bottle but you can bring some home in a "growler". Damn good beer and damn good food.

I've tried a couple of highly-touted microbrews, but their QC seems to be a bit off - the beer simply isn't consistent.
More often than not, I'm drinking some variety of Sam Adams beer - Scotch Ale, Black Lager, Cream Stout, Irish Red, and so forth. I like the variety. (But I avoid those horrible abominations like Cranberry Lambic . . . those ought to be labeled with the "Mr. Yuck" sticker. Makes me wonder what the h-e-double hockey sticks the brewer was thinking.)

I can't stand Sam Adams. Their entire line has some sort of off-taste or secondary flavor that is off-putting to me. I doubt there's anything wrong, but I notice that flavor in all of their beers and I don't like it.
My favorite beer to have when I'm only having one (because it's so strong and heavy) is Dogfish Head Palo Santo Marron (http://www.dogfish.com/brews-spirits/the-brews/year-round-brews/palo-santo-marron.htm). I also like Wychwood's Hobgoblin. If I'm having multiple beers, I'm perfectly happy with MGD or even Miller High Life.

SN Torpedo is pretty good, doesn't rise to the level of a favorite for me but I'm a fan of it for sure.
The Sam Adams "taste" has to be a reliance on a particular hop they use in all their beers or something, I've noticed it also. I don't mind it and some days I really enjoy their beer(s) but it is definitely distinctive.

I love a good, bitter, IPA. If you are ever in the Seattle area, I can highly recommend the Scuttlebutt Industrial Strength IPA. I will have to look for the Sierra on the shelves.

Not a big fan of Sam Adams either. Give me a Yuengling on draught and I'm good to go. Bottles are just as good after sitting in a cooler full of ice.

Local Specs liquor warehouse has a sign posted on the cooler that one ought not ask for Yuengling, as it's not sold in TX.
People must be hearing about it by word of mouth . . .

Can someone PLEASE send me a case of Yuengling?!? I will buy it of course and pay shipping. That is, of course, if that is even legal?
That said, I've been really enjoying Lagunitas stuff lately. The Hop Stoopid is absolutely amazing, if you like hops. The Wilco Tango Foxtrot is also amazing if you like hops. Ninkasi's Total Domination IPA is excellent too. I'm drinking a Believer Double Red from Ninkasi right now. Pretty good.
If you can get it, try Rogue's Dead Guy Ale. Awesome in a bottle right there, and one of my favorites. Drop Top is a good amber, as is Alaskan Amber. If you like a good Hefeweizen, try Widmer's Hef, if you can find it.
Almost everything I've named is an Oregon beer, so it might be hard to find, but well worth the taster. ;)

If you like "Hop Stoopid" you'd really like "Bells Hop Slam".

:o I didn't know I could buy it online!!! Thank you! I've been wanting to try it for a long time. I went to Boston last year and couldn't find it. :(

Bought a 12 pack of the Lager at the local Randall's store (Randall's is part of the Safeway group of grocery stores) and have it cooling down in the fridge now. I'll soon see if it was worth the wait. ($12.77 for a 12 pack.)

While people are buying and shipping I need a 12 pack of Baryn Dragon's Breath. It is a brewery out of Missoula. Used to only be able to get it in draft but is now bottled with a limited shipping area, which Southern Nevada isn't in. It is a dunkelweizen, dark heffe, that I really took a liking to. One of the very few beers I drink.

I still kinda like Torpedo, but my tastes have sure changed since 2010. :laugh: I'm not sure if I have a favorite now, but Bell's Two Hearted and Hoffbrauhaus Oktoberfestbier are way up there -- and they are vastly different beers. This year's HB O'fest just showed up at Costco a week or so ago. I bought my first case yesterday.

Local to me is Schlafly, and two blocks away is the Civil Life brewery. I like their brown ale. They also, when actually open (much of clientele is fully woke, so they are still closed, but with handwavium) will do cask nights...

I'm waiting for this year's Costco Advent beer calendar. Both the previous years were excellent. Every beer was good to great.
I don't know what's going on around here on the local microbrew front. My first two years, I was finding really nice and light Summer beers. This year every local light beer, lager, whatever I try is hopped up and bitter. I know some guys like that, but I'm the opposite. I love a good stout or porter, but in the lighter colored beers I like them to be closer to lawnmower beer than to quadruple IPA.
If I'm not getting beer from the German store*, then I'm drinking MGD or Pacifico right now, as they are loads better (to me) than the local lagers.
*And because of covid, apparently, he is down to 30% or so of his normal stock. He has always had an impressive selection of most every kind of German beer, but his shelves are kinda pitiful of late.

Shiner Bock beats Yuengling. Just saying.
And Shiner Bohemian Black Lager beats Shiner Bock.
And not only is it brewed relatively nearby, it must be diet beer, since the supermarket puts it in a cooler marked LO CAL BEER.

I have to disagree. Drank a fair amount of Shiner Bock when I lived in Texas. It didn't live up to the hype.
Discovered Yuengling after I moved to NC. Found it to be quite tasty, better than Shiner for sure. It's even better than Sam Adams Boston Lager IMNHO, and that used to be my favorite.
Of course, YMMV.

I always preferred Sam Adams Boston Ale to their Boston Lager. And they had a couple of other varieties I liked as well. But thanks to spotty local availability of their "better" varieties and a bit of creeping wokeness in the company itself, I haven't bought any for a number of years now.

I used to buy the Sam Adams assortments on occasion. Their ale and other beers are pretty good. Like you, however, I was troubled by them becoming more and more politically correct and pretty much stopped buying their products.
