Title: Taxpayers get the burden, not the benie's
Post by: Monkeyleg on August 08, 2010, 12:54:48 AM
The Obama's are having a wonderful time taking advantage of the perks of the presidency. Months back, their "date" in New York cost the taxpayers about $250,000. Recently, and I don't know why, they had their dog flown in a separate jet to a vacation spot in Maine.

Michelle Obama's trip to Spain with forty of her "girlfriends" is stacking up to cost the taxpayers about half a million.

It's not just the Obama's who are bleeding the taxpayers, though. It's at every level of government, and not necessarily even in government.

In Milwaukee, the teachers' union is battling to have Viagra reinstated as one of the benefits in their already-solid-gold health care plan, paid for by the taxpayers, of course.

The Chevy Volt is subsidized by taxpayers. It has a sticker price of $41,000 but, if you remove the amount of subsidized money in the car, its real cost is closer to $100K.

The irony of the Volt subsidies is that the car is marketed to "hipsters," those younger urban people who make more than the average worker. Thus the taxpayer who can't afford a Volt is paying to make it affordable to those with higher incomes.

This isn't anything new, though. Taxpayers have already been paying the mortgages of those who overspent. We've helped pay for the new cars of others while we wring every last mile out of our own used cars.

Nothing I'm saying here is new. It's just galling me tonight that our president, his wife and their hangers-on are living like Donald Trump while lecturing us on our own spending and energy usage, and while they push through legislation that picks our pockets and slips our money to those who either don't need it or deserve it, or both.

That two-faced ambulance chaser John Edwards talked incessantly about "two Americas". Tonight I'm thinking more in terms of "A Tale of Two Cities".

But the pigs need all the milk and apples so they can make good decisions for you.

I wouldn't deny any sitting President or his/her family vacations no matter how much I may hate their politics. The Obamas though, don't seem to think things through, or don't care, regarding the elitist appearances of what they do related to what they tell the public.

Besides telling people we all have to cut back (and didn't Michelle say she has an economic strain as a mother right now providing for her kids?) Obama made a big deal about telling people they should vacation in the gulf. So why didn't the wife go to Florida to set an example? Or vacation anywhere in the US to show they're supporting the economy. Obama takes plenty of official trips outside the country where the family can tag along to vacation if they want to be cosmopolitan.

According to what I saw on the news yesterday, the Obamas are paying for the trip themselves for their family. That of course doesn't include paying for staff and protection. The report I saw said the rooms in that hotel cost around two grand a night each, at least on the floor where they put the Obama brigade.

People constantly complained about Bush going to his ranch for vacation. I'm pretty sure he put his staff and protection detail up at the ranch without charging the taxpayers for their rooms.

No reason why a president can't telecommute  =)

What happened to Camp David?

I'll believe the Obama's are paying for it when I see the receipts.  If the US is not stuck for the bill, I'd be real curious if the Obama's actually pay for it or someone else.

Regarding your comment about taking vacation in the US to support the economy and such, I think the Obama's have been very consistent at missing opportunities to practice what they preach and such.  For people who were supposedly such great campaigners, they don't do very good at that stuff.

You know what? I'd be OK with one vacation a year or so. Understand that MY family hasn't gone on a vacation in 7 years. I see no reason why my money that was taken by force should subsidize all or part of a president's vacation.

"Vacation in the Gulf"?

(Insert rude word here).

"Vacation" consists of staying home and not answering the phone if work calls.  Can't afford anything else.

Sounds like we all would like to tell the Obama's where to go.  ;)

I'd written a very long rant, and while I was doing some fact checking my puter locked up.
Obama has been golfing more than Bush.
Immediately after telling us to vaction in the gulf, they go to the Northeast and vacation. I guess that vacation was greuling, because Michelle needed another vacation.
Some of the guests in Spain are Chicago cronies.  This big trip is to "console" her friend over the loss of the olympics for Chicago.
Secret service costs alone are over $75,000 a day.  AF transport, $125,000+ each way.
Private beach in spain.
Two more vacations coming up soon for the Obamas.
Broadway at the whitehouse (no, I don't think the Obamas were actually in attendance for that).
Rumors that BO doesn't start the day until almost 0930.
10% of americans are unemployed.  Another 7-10% are underemployed, or have withdrawn from the job market.
Let them eat cake indeed.

The White House is floating the idea of a second stimulus package, even though it's obvious that the first one didn't stimulate anything except governments. They're also considering more plans to use taxpayer funds for people in default or foreclosure in their mortgages.

As an aside, as of last week and beginning with his inauguration, Obama used personal pronouns ("I", "me") over 16,000 times in his speeches.

That's nothing.  Wait for the ones who will buy it again in '12.

  is my only response.

Hopefully that number is 4% smaller, though. I believe at least 40% of this country is a lost cause, unfortunately.

Another classic case of "Do as I say, not as I do." He has about as much regard for us as Mel Brooks' King Louis did in the movie:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dk47saogI8o

How many vacations have the Obamas taken in the past 18 months? Six? Seven? More?

As Mel Brooks' character said in the movie, "It'd good to be king!"

I think the current count is nine this year, though I'm currently lacking the resource where I read that. Anyone with a link to the current count would be appreciated.

Daaaammmmmnnnnn. And we've got 4 months to go for this year. How many more vacations can the overworked Obamas fit in? I predict 5 or 6. And then two more years after that...and then 4 more years after that, I fear, because the dumb shits in this country will vote for him yet again.

Oh well, at least when he's on vacation he isn't actively trying to f*** the taxpayers.
