Title: Six Republicans Vote Against Tax Cut Extension
Post by: Ben on December 16, 2010, 10:32:22 AM
I don't know anything about Voinovich, but with all the others, I could expect it. Except Alaskans - please explain Murkowski. It wasn't until the recent elections that I really learned about her and how anti-conservative she is. Miller must have really screwed things up to lose to her. She's definitely a California or Massachusetts style "Republican".

Also I disagree with the article's title. A GOP "Centrist" should be solidly voting FOR extension.

Voinovich is a RINO, he use to be mayor of Cleveland before he was the OH governor.  I am so glad that he has retired and we have a true R in Portman representing OH.

They do have a sort of point.

Abort that. I have thought they were against the package deal as such.

Yeah, I could see "I won't vote for extending the welfare state of multiple years of unemployment, even if it would also let tax cuts go on" but I'm not sure that's why these turkeys voted as they did.

They voted that way because they are RINO's, and are against extending the tax cuts, not because they are against extending the unemployment welfare.

Yeah, in my OP I was referring to the tax cuts. It's my understanding that was the reason for their "no" votes.

I thought most conservatives were against this particular package.  The Republicans ought to be able to get a much better deal passed next year.  I understand this bill has hundreds of earmarks and authorizes spending a great deal of money.  At that, it only extends the tax cuts rather than making them permanent.

They should be, but instead this was the RINO's of the GOP being "compassionate".  They should have stood their ground and made the tax rate extensions be voted for on their merit, rather than allow the President to hijack the extension as a welfare assault vehicle.
I've heard anything from a hundred billion to a trillion in increased spending with this one.
If I was a critter, I'd have voted against it, and possibly attempted a fillibuster to boot.
