Fact: Birch beer is awesome.
Question: Why isn't it sold everywhere?
Question2: What are the best birch beers? I've had Boylan's, and Pennsylvania Dutch, which was excellent.
-
I love Birch beer as well.
Answer: I don't know.
Answer2: I had Boylan's a couple of weeks ago and it was delicious. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birch_beer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birch_beer) lists various commercial manufacturers of Birch beer. I still like Birch beer from the fair.
-
Foxon Park. (May be regional, available in New England only.)
White Rock isn't bad, either.
Both are "white" birch beer (clear).
-
I read that as "Where's the Beer Bitch?" and came in here expecting a much more interesting thread =|
-
as a Boy Scout I remember brewing Birch tea while camping in upstate NY, I just can't remember how. I loved it though.
-
Here's a crazed Hoosier who has a blog devoted to it:

Probably been outlawed because it contains too much methyl salicylate.
-
Pennsylvania Dutch is all you can find around here. A friend regularly bribes anyone passing through here from New England to bring her Foxon Park by the pallet load.
-
Weird. I'm drinking a birch beer and rum right now, with Angostura bitters. Good stuff.
-
if you're in Galax VA, Yoder's (http://www.yodersonline.com/) stocks it. =D
speaking of birch beer, i need to drive to VA. :-X
oh, there sammiches are good too.
edit: i left out the producer because i can't remember who it was.

Ohhhh yeaaahh

Drinking a Boylan's Birch right now. It seems our local Big Lots (site of the notorious Monkey Dance) will sometimes have it in stock. Last week was one of those funky times.

Maybe, once you get passed the smell of that damned river...

Yep, that's where I got mine.
I nearly crapped my pants when I saw an ad for those 16oz bottles for $0.75.
Needless to say, I'm making frequent stops and stockpiling it.

Perzactly. Thanks for the reminder that I need to make another stop. You don't live in North St. L county, do you?

Nope, nope; I'm stuck in the cornhole of Texas while I finish pharm school.

Sadly, I can't seem to find a good birch beer around here.
I've been getting by on Virgils root beer
-
Pappy's pizza used to have it on tap back in the 70's
-
I've never seen birch beer around here. What's it like?

Imagine Root beer being GI Joe.
Birch Beer is his sexy sister.
-
I remember powering through the A-treat version when I was a kid at grandmas house. That and the orange. In the 1 liter bottles that you took back to the distributor.
-
Not sure if I've ever had birch beer. Are we talking alcoholic stuff or regular? I never knew that there were alcoholic versions of Root Beer or Birch Beer until reading the Wiki articles.
When I was a little kid, Root Beer tasted like nectar from the Gods to me. My older Bros. first job was at a Dog and Suds. We went to pick him up one night after closing and all the teen employees were having a root beer fight. I was absolutely stunned - I couldn't imagine how people could waste such a rare and delicious substance.
-
Boylan's and Penn Dutch are non-alcoholic. At least the ones I've had.

Probably Kutztown, which is pretty good. Comes in plastic too. Maybe Pennsylvania Dutch brand which is ok. Used to go to the race tracks up there in PA and they'd have it on tap, probably still do.

So the nightmares haven't quite subsided yet?
-
I blame you guys for my dream having birch beer in it.
-
as a Boy Scout I remember brewing Birch tea while camping in upstate NY, I just can't remember how. I loved it though.
we used to make sasaphras tea on our trips. isn't that what they flavor birch beer with?
-
Sasafras flavors root beer. Birch beer is black birch bark & buds.
-
Thanks to youse guys, I bought a Boylen's birch beer today. I'll try it tomorrow with my chili for lunch. That way, if the soda sucks, I have good chili to console myself.

All hail Virgil's.
-
I will have to go get some this weekend at Jungle Jim's.

this is the stuff Yoder's sells. (http://www.boylanbottling.com/) the cases are behind you when your standing at the cooler, on the bottom shelf. they think it's funny when you buy 2 or more cases. =D
edit: this site has some interesting looking drinks. (http://www.sugar.org/sugar-based-producs/beverages.html)

Those Boylan Seltzers look good. That second site has some good stuff on it, like Zuberfizz root beer, but the Fitz's is nothing to write home about. It's sold in a lot of the trendy places in St. Louis, when they should be selling something good, like Virgil's. Durn hippies.
-

actually probably not, I prefer my birch beer cold. ;)

Fistful,
Check out http://www.sodapopstop.com/home.cfm (http://www.sodapopstop.com/home.cfm). This place has a huge selection, unfortunately the shipping is prohibitively expensive.
