That is so cool.
They take stem cells made from the patient's healthy skin, mix it up with a cocktail of some sort, shake, stir, & spray on like paint.
Really, really cool.

26 this summer. Not bald yet up there, but it sure isn't as thick as it used to be. Not a huge bother since I look good with a shaved/trimmed head, but I sure like being able to have a mohawk cut every now and then :laugh:.

You can probably pull off a reverse mohawk. Unless you're afraid it won't grow back. :lol:

I've seen some snippets on this before. Truly fascinating and amazing.
Of course, in addition to the obvious life-saving and pain/rehab reducing awesomeness for people with severe burns, one does wonder about eventual cosmetic applications.
I've got an interesting and extensive scar collection myself. Have thought from time to time about trying to get them fixed someday, but dermabrasion and dermaplaning just don't really sound like my idea of a good time or a pleasant way to spend several months. But if dermabrasion/dermaplaning could be followed up with ready application of a layer of fresh skin, well, that's kind of a game changer. I'd have to get my tattoo redone after the fact, but that's no problem. =)

Well, my thinking was that this is an entirely different mechanic.
With the skin graft, they simply keep the grafts in a sterile environment
They're shooting these tiny particles through air, onto the skin, and it seems impossible to me be certain that the particles are traveling through "first air."
Granted, this isn't an IV, but these burn victims are definitely immunosuppressed and vulnerable..

maybe they use an inert sterile gas to reomove the air as they are applying the skin? kind of like mig welding with co2!

It would be nice to think that those burned to the point where survival is questionable today would have a better chance to live tomorrow. Yes, very cool...

i'm curious as to the extent of pain relief. would covering the burned nerve endings allow for faster healing of those as well?

Well, as far as my limited pathophys education indicates: the burned nerve endings aren't the problem with burns.
It's the exposed / damaged areas, and if those can be re insulated against the environment, that should provide some pain relief.
But I could be totally wrong.
