Title: Tactical bacon before it was cool!
Post by: 41magsnub on February 06, 2011, 09:35:58 AM
Digging though Dad's camping stuff this weekend and came across a gem!  Westland's Campin' Bacon!  It expired in 1992.

I must open this...  so far it looks like a can of intestines

I nibbled a little corner of one piece and it tasted ok.

As a bonus!  Dehydrated sausage patties!

Ever see the episode of Futurama where Fry eats the gas station egg salad sandwich?

Cool!

Expiration dates are for suckers. It's a total industry scam. I think you should eat away! :)

The sausage patties on the other hand, with the cornmeal added, make them not meat. Discard or give to a vegetarian.

Good find there! I think I would have kept them as sentimental reminders, but then I never had a real relationship with my Dad so I am no judge.

I've got a lot more than expired food for that sort of thing!  Everytime I work or do something fun outdoors now it will involve something that belonged to my Dad from tools, to clothes, to the truck that will get me there.

The food value of those products is probably the same today as it was when it was packaged. Surprisingly the only expired food I've eaten off the shelf and found to taste strange and inedible was a box of flavored triscuits.

Hmmm, according to my buddy, chicken & fish are not meat, but corn is "almost meat."

Interesting. I am in your buddy's camp on the former, but am perplexed by the latter.
