Brace for impact.
East coast folks that have a tendency to leave their computers online 24/7 might be best served to turn them off. this isn't a big enough flare to do real damage, but solar weather folks are suggesting that tomorrow will be warmer than traditional weather services predict initially, especially for North America. And that Europe will get rain later in the week from the Atlantic evaporation from the surge in temps. Voltage in electric transportation systems may become irregular.
No mutant dinosaurs predicted.

thanks for the heads up

Captain, the ship canna take much more of this.....
-
Northern Lights should be good.

Dammit, don't bother us with this crap unless mutuant dinosaurs are iminent. How many times do we have to go over this? =|

How about Zombies ?? Do we atleast get Zombies ??
Tuesday is Chemo day, so this'll be good, since the pump is electronic. Maybe I become a mutant, that might be cool.... =| :P >:D

That's one plan, sure....
-
Seems like a good plan... ;)

Not a mutant zombie, but definitely a mutant something. Will we get more tomorrow?

I had to reset my cable modem and wireless router this morning; they were working fine late last night. I wonder if this had anything todo with it?

Doubtful.
The only thing that would have been effected at ground level was the power grid, mainly on the east coast of the U.S. and Canada. And the power co's had plenty of warning to safe the lines, set breakers etc.
A surge would largely have been absorbed by the router and modem's wall-wart DC transformers. A dip might do it, but generally below the operating threshold is the same as "off", so that would have reset them anyway.
-
I was thinking more about what came in over the cable rather than power lines. (or it might have briefly knocked out the service at the Central Office and I just needed to reset to sync back up)

Hm...someone with cancer who gets super powers? Like Deadpool? =D

Holy Moses.....peopleofwalmart.com.....Yikes!

Fear the worst, because its happening. Just dusted off 2 zombies in the front yard. I didn't know zombies could ride bicycles and wore ties.... =D

I suspect you haven't seen the end of them. I had some just like that out front of my place that I had to dispense with. As I did, I heard someone yelling "That's more, man!"

I'm not allowed to talk to them. Seems the local Bishop got his tie torqued a couple of years ago when I kept inviting the poor kids into the AC for relief from the heat/humidity, and while talking about their book offering them a cold drink - soda, beer, iced coffee? After word got out, I can't even get the folks pushing "The Watchtower" to knock on my door.
As for the solar flare -- apparently my implanted pacemaker/defibulator is immune.
stay safe.

Offer them some coffee cake to go with it. Watch the confused looks on their faces.

I didn't intend to make this a thread about jacking with missionairies...they were just the first neighborhood wandering people I could think of....
-
Cable TV lines are shielded and should be unaffected [tinfoil]

So you're saying we should start a separate jacking with missionaries thread and keep this one clean and pure with Zombies and Mutants ?
=D

APS is always full of thread veer.
The JW's got me finally. They sent these old, sweet black women to my door. I had to be polite when I told them to go away.
Had a pair of Baptists come to the door once in Utah. I had to ask them twice what church they were with before I hurled potty mouthed words at them and slammed the door.... >:D
-
mmmmmmmMMMMmmmmm BRAINS mmmMMMmmm
-
Sadly after waiting all day, no Mutations or Super Powers, but hope springs eternal for when I wake up tomorrow morning !!
;/ =D
-
I thought I had wiped out an entire cemetary's worth of them. All careful .22lr head shots, to destroy the bacteria controlled remnants of brain etc.
Then it turns out they were just all in Amway.
The Police Department gave me a medal anyway though.
-
So.....did we all die?......
-
I feel undead, not dead. That OK?

It depends. What airline do you work for?
After the flare, there were some census folks doing a follow-up around here. It was an honest mistake. Honest.
-

Braniff.
-
Braniff.
Sorry, you're not a zombie, your feeling that way is normal.
-
Note to self, Braniff pilots are inflatable dolls with heads that rotate 360* and have air fill tubes in unmentionable places. :O
-
Well the only super power I acquired was the ability to projectile vomit.....
Pretty far down the list of desirable superpowers.
I AM VOMITMAN !!!!!

For the time being, stay on your side of the country, please.

Now they're saying the big whammy is going to hit us on the 17th and 18th of February.
Can't believe anything any more.
-
Blame it on the stupid newz weenies.
On the bright side, I read where we are heading for a solar maximum in the next couple years. Maybe we will get some globular warming.
-
I got an automated call from one of my worthless senators inviting me to conference in on a townhall meeting. They said it would affect communications and it must have.
-
So the solar flare was just as disasterous as the Y2K bug.
I expect the Mayan Apocalypse of 2012 to be just as bad, so we'd all best prepare.

Did the hams and CBers notice an increase in e-layer skip? Back when I was into radios I could talk to places like Hawaii or Australia on my trucks CB.
-
Nothing was mentioned on my club's reflector, nor did anyone mention it while we were together last night.
Chris
-
I think the brunt of that disruption from Tuesday wound up over China and parts of Asia. Although I don't know if it was specifically the ionosphere changes that they mentioned. Just "communication disruptions".
-

You can do that with any CB if you feed it through a 1500 watt amp.
-
But, but, that' would have been illegal! :police:
Biggest amp I had was a 200 watt and co-phased antennas on my pickup. Never ran a base station.
-
Why is it only hitting the AM band and not the FM band? I think it is a left wing conspiracy to shutdown talk radio! amirite?
-
amirite?
No, tannerite.

AM is more sensitive to interference because it is the amplitude of the wave that carries the modulation and that's what gets "chopped" by interference.

I remember being on the Baumholder MTA and calling into Range Control one night:
"Range Control, this is Area Juliet/Whiskey, over."
"Last calling say again, over."
"Range Control, this is Area Juliet/Whiskey, over." slightly exasperated....
"Last calling, did you say 'Area Juliet/Whiskey, over?"
"Range Control, this is Area Juliet/Whiskey, reporting all training activities have ceased for the night." (Germany had Quiet Hours Laws that had to be abided by and you had cease any noisy activities and call in to report that you were now going to STFU.)
"Last calling, we ain't got no area Juliet/Whiskey."
Me getting pissed: "Range Control, YOU KNOW THE TWO BIG FREAKIN' TRAINING AREAS SOUTH OF THE SOUTH TANK TRAIL, OVER"
"We don't have a South Tank Trail, over"
Me, pissed and confuddled: "WHO ARE YOU, over?"
"Toole Army Depot*, where are you?"
:O :O :O "No *expletive deleted*, I'm in Baumholder, Germany, over."
We talked for about a minute and then I got interrupted by Baumholder (US) Range Control wanting to know who I had been talking to on the restricted range control freq.
"You wouldn't believe me if I told you, over"
*Utah, US of A
-
Yep, skip on a radio can be fun. Buamholder and Bad Kreuznach are good duty stations.
-
No more BK, in fact no more lots of places in Deutschland... :'(
In fact never though I'd live to see it but it must be said.
"Would that last US Soldier out of Baumholder, please remember to turn off the lights..."
