I had update manager pop up Friday night. I should have clicked cancel that night.
When I turned this system on Saturday, it couldn't find Ubuntu. So I started in XP and did all the XP updates since I haven't had it on for a while.
Anyone else have trouble with the last update?
It's not the computer, it starts in XP but when I try to start Ubuntu it says not found and restarts.

Windows update manager?

Windows update manager?
No it was the Ubuntu update manager. I didn't look at the list of updates I just hit install.

Jim, I believe I'm running 10.04 on my work machine. No problems as of yet, though it hasn't been run since Friday.

Is it a true installation or a WUBI one?

Nary a problem here, on multiple machines.
There was a kernel update recently. I wonder if somehow GRUB didn't get hosed. I'd look at the Grub 2 howto (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2) and the grub howto (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GrubHowto) for hints on recovering, if that is the case.

I was thinking it was a straight install from the live cd, but I don't remember. I've done both without any problems.
I think I need to pop the disc in and see if I can fix grub.

You're having problems with Ubuntu? That unpossible.

And Windows still works fine. This has got to be the only post like this on the net.

Yeah, I know. I think you should try Ubuntu.

Maybe he got one of those computer viruses that are flying all over the net. Using the users native superuser status to do all kinds of nastiness by exploiting holes in the closed source code. >:D
