So, today I went out and bought 150 feet of 550 paracord. What do I do now with all of it?
(Links are appreciated, hint, hint... )

I have slightly less than a kilometer of the stuff. It was on a spool, but one end fell off, and no one wanted to re-spool it. So, I rescued it from the dumpster.
I've made keychains, rifle slings, etc out of it. Know someone that wove a rigging harness out of one. Just stop by any book or hobby store and pick up a book on weaving. I also used to rip out the filler, and fed my dog tag chain through it. Stopped the chain from occasionally ripping a hair or two out of my neck. Plus it wasn't so shiney. Very quiet too.
Aside from that, it's uses are limited only by your imagination. Combined with duct tape, expoxy and superglue, you can fix anything from a broken handguard on an AR15 to the Firefly class ship.
It's good to keep a dozen meters of the stuff in your car, backpack, whatnot.
-
Keep some everywhere! My favorite use is I keep a 4 foot piece in my wallet. I stripped all the inner cord so it folds up flat and have a permanent bowline knot in each end. I have used it most often for a field expedient dog leash, but it has a million other uses. I keep it wrapped around some cash and a swiss card, pretty handy wallet survival. I can never have too much cord.

Wrap a new grip for a fixed-blade knife. Something like this:
Or just the lanyard for the knife, like I did:

You also don't get that freezing metal on the neck feeling either.

Just in case.

That and a groundcloth make a pretty fast shelter in an emergency. I always have some in my bacpack(s) and theres a few yards in my micro survival kit.
-
If you go camping with buddies you can always tie one end to their tentpole, hide it under some leaves and lead it out away from the tent. Then, at about 0-dark-30 you can yank it, pull the pole out and collapse their tent on them. An oldie but still a goodie!
-
I also remove the guts for some applications, but I wonder how much strength is lost by that? Anyone know?
What do I do with this paracord stuff?
What can't you do with it? It is definitely useful for wrapping the handles of knives, flashlights, machetes, clubs, etc., wherever you need better purchase or a thicker handle. I find my Mini-Maglite doesn't move around between my teeth, when I have the paracord wrapped about it.
Any piece of cord that you will be using long-term, seal off each end by using a flame to melt the ends of the strands together. Keeps them from unraveling and it looks better that way.
-
You can also use it as a camp clothesline or to lash yourself together some temporary camp furniture. I never cut mine, that was a big no no. Oh, you can hang you bear bag with it too. Mkaes it harder for the squirrels and the like to get your bag.
-
Carry around a lighter with you if you have paracord. You'll need it to melt the ends of the pieces together so they don't unravel.
-
Use it along with some 100mph tape to make cheap mag-pulls on your "social-use" magazines.

Well, this stuff is pretty cool.
Edit: Picture!
I braided three 6 foot pieces together for my EDC pack; tied a sloppy monkey's fist for my SAK; added two simple lanyards to my Squirts, and tried a square braid fob for my keychain. Best for last: I wrapped my Mini-Maglight ala The Martialist. That is really cool. The grip on that flashlight is now something else.

emergency boot laces...

You can tie your girlfr....never mind.
I just used a bunch to tie stuff down in my PODS for moving.

Here is a link for some how to stuff:

And if I figured out how to do this, here is a picture of some possibilities. You could make one and still have 148 feet left.

Hammock...
But that would be on the more ambitious side.

Suicide?
I don't know... I've already used up forty feet of the stuff, and at the rate I'm going I won't have enough left by the time I get done with it.

I'm gonna remember that one.

I already learned that. I've been using matches like they're goin' out of style.

This stuff does make cool keychain fobs. Much better than that stupid plastic lacing they sell in craft stores.

I found this link http://www.slatts.fsworld.co.uk/slatts-knot.htm the other day. I've started to try my hand at it. It looks pretty cool because it is made with one continuous piece of cord. I wonder how many feet of paracord I'll actually end up using to make a belt my size.

Get a couple more spools? :neener:

Make a hammock first. Trust me.

Wow, this thread goes back. But seeing how's we're here again. I also use a piece to tie my car key to my belt loop when I go off into the woods. That way I should be able to manage not losing it somewhere along the way. I make it long enough so it will go into my pocket. Haven't lost a key yet.
-
I tie all sorts of stuff down with it, after I ended up with a spool while complying with the First Law of Supply.

Actually, my estimate is that I'll use about 50 feet to make a 36 inch belt. Just my size. When I finish it we'll see how far off was my guess.
Make a hammock first. Trust me.
For that I'd need more than just a couple of more spools. I only have fifty feet anyway, so it's convenient that my estimate for my belt size calls for just that amount. (or maybe it's wishful thinking... *whistles* )
Some guy on another forum just recently suggested the same thing! He even provided that same link. I might try that.

The stuff has to be one of the better inventions of recent history. TarpleyG, there's nothing wrong with consensual "soft restraints." Between consenting adults. But probably not in Texas. . .
We go through a spool of it at Rescue about once a year.

What are you all doing with the tax money, over there? Or would I rather not know?
I'm convinced all our enemies need do to conquer us is seize our military's supplies of 550 cord and that green duct tape.
-
We're a non-profit, 501c.3
No tax monies whatsoever.
And as to the rest? What goes on in the back of a rig on a transport stays there. Federal law.
. . . not.

I'll second that.
You can easily tow a deadlined HMMWV with 550. 12 strands work, but I'd recommend at least 15 or 16. I rigged a commo wire dispenser with a spool of 550 on any vehicle I was issued for any extended period of time.
I found something better than 100 mph tape, aviation tape. It's some kind of bendy metal. That stuff can and does hold together aircraft. Only down side is that it's very shiny.

550 cord works well as a bikini.

I agree with Doc about pics for the bikini.

You do know that a legal hangman's knot has to have thirteen (13) loops!.
-
I've had several 100' pieces in my families BOB and just ordered a 300' spool.
Now I have some ideas to play with in my ample spare time, I spend way to much time online.
I have a couple of knives that came with para cord wraps. Now I'll have to try to do one myself.
thanks for the links.
