I lay the blame of a national default on the American People, for voting for a socialist Aulinsky-ite putz for POTUS, and then 2 years later flip-flopping to Tea Party principles in what can only be described as multiple personality disorder on a national scale.
But, the House has the most recent Mandate of the People, and when comparing mandates between the Obama executive mandate of his 2008 election versus the House mandate of 2010, the House one is newer and more urgent/strident. It supersedes that of the 2008 mandate.
Anyways, it's the Senate that sits for Impeachment. Not the House. They won't find Obama guilty.

But yeah, if Obama orders his Treasury Sec to default that would rise to the level of impeachment.
And America didn't [barely] vote for Socialism and Aulinsky, they voted for Rainbow Unicorns to Fart Magic Skittles of Hope and Change. The only way that the vast majority of Lefties get elected is they have to hide their true agenda behind something innocuous sounding. Then once the voters dicover they've been duped there is a massive backlash (ala the TEA Party). Sadly, the voters have short memories and soon thereafter again for the same crap wrapped in better packaging.

Ordering a default can't be grounds for impeachment - overriding and borrowing anyway could and should be, as it is plainly illegal

Actually, either would be grounds for impeachment. If he pays ANYTHING before our debt, President Obama is violating the 14th amendment.

That is a meme circulating conservative websites. From a legal perspective, it's laughable. Default on a debt is different from cancellation, which is clearly not allowed.

Our ship of state has been heading toward this debt iceberg for a long long time, Obama just doubled the crew stoking the boilers and screamed full speed ahead. The fixing of this is going to be commensurate in years of the breaking of it.

I didn't know the 14th Amendment reads: "The public debt of the United States... shall not be cancelled."
I thought it said: "The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law... shall not be questioned."

Sorry Mak, but them's the facts - that provision was enacted to stop the US from merely declaring all its debts void (cancelling) and failing to pay people it borrowed from, something sovereigns had done in the past.
Failing to pay a debt isn't the same thing as saying "there is no debt." You can have perfectly valid debts that go unpaid. Happens all the time in the consumer market. Just because you don't pay the mortgage doesn't mean its validity is in question.
