Title: Man buys 1911 at auction, finds that it was stolen & returns it

George Berry wanted a historic 1911 and buys one at auction for $1000.  Once he owns it, he starts researching the name on the slide, John J. McGinty, Berry finds out that it belonged to the same person who is a living Medal of Honor recipient.  Berry contacts McGinty and finds out that the 1911 was stolen from McGinty in 1978.  Berry returns the 1911 to McGinty and doesn't ask for anything in return.   This is the very pistol the McGinty used during the action that made him a recipient of the Medal of Honor.

Tam did this story a couple of days ago in her blog (http://booksbikesboomsticks.blogspot.com/). A daily must read for all things shooty.

Great story about two honorable men....


....but, I wonder if the insurance company paid off the theft claim....if so, the publicity might not be such a good thing for either man....

Over 30 years? I doubt the insurance company would have a leg to stand on. Even if they were still in business and had all the paperwork. Whats the statue of limitations on insurance claims? Just because it turned up doesn't mean its fraud.
