Money quote from the local Sherriff: "you're gon' mess with the wrong one, and you're gon' get shot."

This was the money quote for me:

Quote
Wright said, "It's bad when you have a dead person. And it's bad when you have a citizen who has to defend his life like that. That's not what we want. We just want people to leave other people alone."

I avoid Spartanburg County/Boiling Springs at night...on the weekends...actually pretty much all the time. My brother works about a mile from where this happened.

Sheriffs are elected, right? That's vote-winning quote right here:
Quote from: Chuck Wright
thieves sometimes learn their lesson the hard way. "People are going to have to stop robbing folks," he said.

Also this, from the relatives of the dead robber:
Quote
They told McCormick they're sorry that the homeowner was put in the position of defending himself, and they said they will pray for him.
Bit unusual, isn't it? Seems like most of the stories I read, the relatives of the dead crook go bananas and blabber about violence not being an option and why did he have to kill him waily waily...

Also: Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

White victim from SC.  The family is probably from a different sub-culture from the "My baby didn't hurt no one!" wailers.

I think another APS member coined the term "Catastrophic failure of the victim selection process" . . .

I think this is most probably the case.

Comes from Mr. Ayoob, I think.

Either him or Cooper.  Can't remember which one...

Made all the easier by the fact there really is no appealing reason to go there. Certainly not with Greenville right next door.

I've used that quite a bit but I think it originated with Jeff Cooper.

It hurt quite a bit.

I will bring whatever I like to a gun fight, thank you very much.

In addition to the gun(s).

Rumor has it that the USMC recommends, in addition to bringing your own gun, that you bring all your friends who have guns also.

But what does the USMC Field Training Manual say to bring to a tire iron fight?

I can imagine. Not only are they pretty big, but to get the wrinkles out of tires, they have to be really HOT too.  :O

When my tires get wrinkled, I put more air in them.

Bring a gun; bring all your friends with guns.  It's pretty much the same for any situation. The Marines aren't known for their stunning breadth of tactics.

Waddya mean?  Marines gots two tactics - 1) shoot it dead, and then shoot it dead again just to make sure;  and 2) call in artillery and close air support to shoot it dead before you go and shoot it dead again just to make sure.

Seriously, how much more tactics does a guy need?

stay safe.

I thought they had three tactics:

1) Attack
2) Attack, attack!
3) Attack, attack, attack!

You forgot drink beer after shooting it dead.

Also forgot "complain about equipment or getting shafted in the procurement process"

Those are not tactics; they are policies.

And whose signature line is quoting something I once said about Marines and griping?  I know I said it, but can't remember exactly how I said it.  (It was brilliant, which is probably the reason I can't recall the exact words.  Lightning does not always strike multiple times, despite what "science" and "statistics" say.)

stay safe.

That would be Balog.  Not to be confused with a balrog.  Or a ballhog, if you are a 'Bored of the rings' fan.

I paraphrase that line everytime my daughter's ex-husband is mentioned
She chose....poorly.

It pisses her off to no end

There are only two Marine jokes.  All the others are true.
