That is a tragedy. I hope the victims all have a full recovery. Having said that:

I thoroughly agree. I'm wondering, though, whether nobody was armed or if the shooter just caught everyone off guard. This is Nevada. We have shall issue and open carry. He walked in with a rifle, after just having fired it right outside.

Sheriff Kenny Furlong told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that the suspect fired at restaurant customers before shooting himself. He said the shooter is not expected to survive, according to the newspaper.
If you want to kill yourself do so before shooting others.

My impression is that NV has always been a gun friendly state.
Sadly, it does not seem that the carrying or not carrying of guns seem to make a difference with incidents like this.

It wasn't immediately clear whether the gunman had any connection with the military or the Guard and authorities weren't saying whether the attack targeted the Guard members, who were meeting at the restaurant.

So they were meeting there. Was this duty related? Assuming so, I'm guessing they were in uniform and prohibited from carrying? Correct?

Carson City Sheriff Kenny Furlong says the man was 32-year-old Eduardo Sencion of Carson City. He says Sencion worked at a family business in South Lake Tahoe, was not in the military, and had no known affiliations with anyone inside the restaurant.

I don't doubt they'll try it, but if they didn't get it after Jared Lee Loughner, they ain't getting it after this guy.

The local paper said the shooter was an agent for a south lake Tahoe grocery store. I have no idea what "agent" means. The family said he had mental issues. A local news station played a clip of a witness saying it sounded like auto fire. I seriously doubt that he had the money for a fully auto AK.

He was either 'coached' for a nice news soundbite, or he was talking BS to enjoy his 15 minutes of fame.
Speaking the truth these days is a very infrequent occurrence in any venue.....

Like 9/11 truthers focusing on ear-witnesses to the attacks who claim that the planes "sounded like a missile". See, it was obviously a missile and not a plane. because Joe-sixpack on the street knows what a missile sounds like flying overhead.
