Title: !@#$%^&* filters!
Post by: doczinn on September 29, 2011, 02:50:07 AM
I'm at a hospital baby-sitting a client's druggie brother, and gun sites are blocked by their firewall. No gunrightsmedia.com, no thehighroad.org, no thefirearmblog.com, no ar15.com, no thefiringline.com, etc etc etc. Know what isn't blocked? http://www.bradycampaign.org/

APS works. Slipped under the radar, I guess.

Of course, "proxy avoidance" is almost certainly a naughty category too, which is why you should always have this on your machine or on a flash drive before going into such a place:

Many healthcare facilities have the same filters on guest/patient Net access as they do for the employees.  So sites for adult materials, firearms, violence, games, alcohol, file sharing, social media and the like are automatically blocked by the Net Nanny or equivalent software.

Yeah. Broke my iphone and am borrowing an ancient blackberry. And that Tor browser isn't working. No matter, I'm only here two nights.

AJ got it, although it's probably cheaper with Virgin Mobile.

Torbrowser has some drawbacks; it's near impossible to get bridge addresses when you're already on a locked down network.

Under Settings -> Network, check the second and third boxes, and try the following bridge addresses:
87.172.246.59:443
128.197.31.92:443

Those should work from nearly anywhere that allows web access at all.

When Thing 2 was born in 2008, our local hospital was wide open.  I was hitting gun sights galore while in the hospital (t'ain't much to do when wifey and baby are asleep and Thing 1 is with grandma).

Just tested it, and it's working for me.  =D

Although you have to be a paying member to see/use the alias IIRC.

Although that and "American Research" have been around so long, they've gotten added to a few filter lists.  =(

As some of you know, I'm at Ronald Reagan medical clinic at UCLA (Kalifornia!.)
FYI:
On my netbook and their WIFI, I'm currently logged on to APS, Facebook, ARFcom, and Pandora.  I've also been getting Google Maps and all other Google apps, banked at my credit union, checked my work email thru Microsoft Exchange Server, Woot, and a bunch of other stuff.  Haven't had anything blocked yet.

Going very well, thank you.  I'm driving back to Vegas around noonish.

Who needs porn when there are so many student nurses running around in crisp white uniforms?   =D
