Hey folks.
A friend of mine wants to give a gift of one of the Colt Marine Commemorative 1911s to the local Marine recruiter before he leaves at the end of the year. I check Gun Broker, Auction Arms, and Guns America: nada. So I figured I would see what y'all could suggest.

I can give you the email addresses of all the shops on my site that display email addresses, and you could send one out en masse.
What about putting a "wanted" ad on GunsAmerica or in Shotgun News? Or is there not the time?
-
We've got about a month to get it: departure dates keep getting changed, earliest (so far) being 03 Jan
-
Did you try Colt's website?
-
Not yet: this got dumped in my lap today...
-
Is it a commemorative made and engraved by Colt, or is it a Colt engraved by someone else? Does it have a particular name?
-
Guy that wants to buy it says he heard that Colt had done them.
Guns America has one listed, by another company. But it lists is "sold, pending transaction"

Contact the folks at the VFW & American Legion magazines - they have ads in there regularly for the service commorative 1911s.
stay safe.

This one? (http://www.americaremembers.com/products/COLT100TP/COLT100TP.asp) That's a nice gift.
That site also yields a Devil Dog Tribute (http://www.americaremembers.com/products/MDDOGTP/MDDOGTP.asp)

He'd probably choose the Devil Dog: it IS for a Marine recruiter, after all...
And he said the dreaded "price don't matter"....

At first I saw the thread, and I thought, "Yes! My nephew (also Marine) will be getting back from Afghan from his last tour and his enlistment expires this summer. What a perfect idea."
Then I saw the $2000 price tag, and thought:

There's always one of these: Enduring Freedom USMC M9 (http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=248837020) They're a little more affordable, but you'll have to look around for a but to find one for sale.

Strings, if you decide to go with the America Remembers model, please let me know. I have a very small favor to ask.
Having said that, I think the America Remembers stuff tends to be over the top.

That recruiter must have helped the recruiting station hit goal every month he was there! ;) =D
