Title: Are there any good free image editing softwares?
Post by: zahc on May 26, 2006, 08:06:31 AM: Since I reformatted my computer and discovered Open Office.org suits my spreadsheet needs perfectly, is there an equivalently good replacement for Photoshop in the open source domain?

Post by: garrettwc on May 26, 2006, 09:25:43 AM: Ditto what Marnoot said about GIMP. It's the closest thing to Photoshop and works very similar. If you want something lighter (closer to Photoshop Elements) and are on Windows try Irfanview.

Marnoot,

I need this, too, so I downloaded GIMP.

However, there is no .exe extension on the install file and I cannot instll it.

Gimp website says it must be compiled.

Is this for dumb users like me?

Post by: garrettwc on May 27, 2006, 11:49:06 AM: yeah matis it sounds like you got the *nix version. Which has to be compiled to run. The windows version has the standard .exe installer.
