Title: Flanders fields
Post by: Stand_watie on May 28, 2006, 07:27:20 PM
An elderly man who told us of his brother in world war 2 read this poem this morning in church. Those of you who appreciate freedom, find the veteran or the berieved loved one of the veterans of one of our wars and thank him or her for their sacrifice.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

To all those serving, have served, or made the ultimate sacrifice, thank you.

All gave some. Some gave all.

God bless our vets past and present, and thanks for your service.

If you haven't heard Willie McBride, also called The Greeen Fields of France, by Eric Bogle, I recommend it.

This site,

http://www.greatwar.nl/frames/default-mcbride.html,

includes mp3's.

Sorry folks, this is a test of the thread delete tool.  I have copied, deleted and reposted to see if it really works.  Hope I haven't annoyed anyone.

Dropkick Murphy's do Willie McBride on their new album.  A beautiful dirge.
