Why yes, it IS a political topic. :)
I was just reading where the German conservative coalition is losing some seats in their Parliament. A group that captured seats (for the first time apparently) was the Pirate Party. I'd never heard of them and had to look them up. It's apparently an international coalition, mostly based on information freedom and privacy rights.
They initially sounded kind of cool and libertarian, but with some further reading, they appear to be more leftist, as in, "We're all about freedom for stuff we like, but not for stuff we don't like".
Cool name though.

There is, you know, a Pirate Party member on this very forum.

Cool. If the summoning ritual works, can they give a Pirate Party synopsis so I can see if I misread or misunderstood their platform? :)

Piratenpartei Deutschland is ... Not exactly equal to the traditional Republicans or Democrats. Their main platform is freedom, primarily with interest in intellectual property and electronic free speech. Digitale Gesellschaft, Patentrecht, Urheberrecht and Bildung of all the previous.
Plenty of information at http://wiki.piratenpartei.de/Hauptseite
Individual members range from libertarians to social liberals (in the modern American sense).
