Had to put "Dakota" down about a month ago. She was 15 yrs old, Lab/GSD mix. Helleva good dog! The good part: she was getting around well for her age & actually in pretty good shape. Had obviously been feeling poorly for about a week. Wife came home & found her unable to get up, got her to the vet & she'd obviously had a stroke & started seizing there so decided to put her down. She actually suffered very little.
Wife always wanted a GSD but we always seemed to wind up with something else. So today we went to look at a coup[le GSD pups, brought this boy home. His dad's a brute, maybe 125 lbs. All the males out of this pair have been big dogs. When we pulled in mom & dad came to meet us barking & this pup came right out, too. Also, there were some pretty loud gunshots nearby but he paid no attention. After having him home a few hours w/ "Turbo" (probably a labradoodle, stray) & "Bo" the cat, he seems to fit right in.
Anyway, here's "RUGER"

Good looking pup!
Has he learned 'Dammit" yet? =D
-
That is his name. At least, I am sure he is hearing "Dammit Ruger!" quite often. =D
I was going to comment on the name, but it is better than Springfield or S&W. I might have to name a dog Wesson sometime though.

"GSD" ??? German Shepherd? (that's what he looks like. Cute pup!)

I'm sorry for your loss, and happy for Ruger. Sounds like he lucked in to a good home.

Nice
Still looking for another dog but German Shepard is on the GF's NO list.
-
Yeah, he's heard "dammit" a few times. But he's been scary good. Over 24 hrs & no puddles or piles inside so far ( there's always tomorrow :O). Was standing in kitchen yesterday evening and looked over both shoulders before stepping back. Didn't rotate far enough back & darned near fell over the little guy standing close directly behind me. He loves being close to SWMBO or I.
Yeah, GSD is German Shepherd Dog, the current AKC designation.
Never: have you considered a new GF??
Thanks for the compliments guys.

Cutie pie! I love those ears! =)

Good looking pup there, Bob. Congrats to all of you.

Doggy!

Cute pup! maybe he'd like to play with mine, her name is Kimber....
-
Awww! Maintenance guy at local tourist attraction had a dog named Damnit. Guests were a bit taken aback when he walked out on the lawn and started calling his dog.
-
That is the cutest puppy ever!!!!
Why is Ben ignoring me?

You must have missed the engagement ring thread I started.
Apparently she got chased several times by a neighborhood gsd as a kid.
This is the dog I have picked out.

Me too, I want one of these provided I end up with enough outdoor space for one. Beautiful dogs. Get an Anatolian in 3,2,1.... =D
-
Yeah, those are dandy dogs. Personal preference is GSD & Labs (preferable black). But I really feel every home inhabited by reasonably intelligent human beings needs a large, reasonably intelligent, dog! =D. When I have my fill of stupid people @ work, I used to tell one of the girls: "Get Dakota on the phone, I need some intelligent conversation."
Edit: Some of the best dogs I've known are mixed breeds.

Cute puppy....let us know what he chews up next....

I'll post occassionally as the little booger grows. He was 25# on 5/8. Back to vet in a month, but I'm sure I'll have another pic before then.

The boy's growing! Back to the vet tomorrow, I'll get a wt then, but he eats twice what the 100# labradoodle eats! Throw in the 8# cat and that trio is a hoot!! And yes, I probably should have named him "Dammit"!

He's growing bolder & finding that Mom & Dad may not be the only interesting things around =(
-
Wow! What a handome (and big) guy he is now!
Thanks for the pics, Bob. :-*
What did you do to his ears? They went from cute flopsy-doodle to full attention.
-
Thanks, LS. He's 40.8# today at the vet, That's up 15# in a month! Doin' well! Really need to work on the obedience thing. Think he's pretty smart, comes & sits most of the time if no distraction, like food or the cat ;/. Like to teach him to track, but not sure how. Checking NASAR.
Stay safe.

Oh, forgot: ears up on there own. Asked vet last visit "will they stand up?" "Maybe yes, maybe no....." Had another breeder tell me sometimes they flop back down. He'll sometimes lay 'em back, but they're mostly like radar antanae!!!
