Post by: Perd Hapley on May 16, 2012, 10:10:59 AM

I think I'm fistful now, but I don't know how long that will last.

Okay, with a little judicious Googling, I was able to figure out this is some sort of plan to generate economic uplift in the Third World with some sort of microfinance scheme.

"For just five dollars, at a 1% APR, you can help Umbumga (click'click') realize her dream of making a goat milk stand in her village, escape her abusive drunken husband, who is also her uncle, and buy a mosquito net for her daughter, and schoolbooks."

I get it.

But damn, if it were just from that HuffPo blog, I'd think it was the random musings of a lobotomy patient obsessed with creating his own form of Newspeak.  =|

That's what the emails are like, but they all sound like they're ushering in the Utopia.

Huh!  I thought Utopia was ushered in already.... wait, lemme look it up... Yup, January 20, 2009.

Some of it sounds laudable. One thing (I think?) they seem to be saying is that instead of just whining and hand-wringnig that masses of the Third World are mired in the (bottom) of the 99%, why not just shoot for the 10% instead? Which I guess is the basis for Decemland as in Deci-10 Decimate etc. or perhaps as a secondary play on "Dreamland" too?

But the fruitcake culty wording seems to belie everything else.  [tinfoil]

I explained what the new architecture of capitalism was all about to Nouriel Roubini during a 75 minute conversation last 14 May 2009 in New York City. Nouriel mentioned several times that the ideas presented in my forthcoming book were overly ambitious. He may be right. But if we are not the dreamers of today, we will never reach Decemland, the land of ten percent.

The four pillars of capitalism were defined in a previous article. They are dream, love, cornucopia and eutopia. Decemland embraces the best thinking of the social sciences. Decemland becomes the core of the new architecture, where the new institutions will be based: The Yunus-fund, the Decemfund, the Bank for the Poor, the New Institution and the World Fair Trade Organization.

Wait was this implemented yet?
I would predict the rise of tribal warlords and cannibalism within 5 years. Capitalism based on warm fuzzy ideas instead of capitalist ideas is bound to spiral downward-fast.

Dood, please.  That's not what they are wanting to usher in - says so right in the article.

EUtopia.  The philosophy that says that the European Union really could have worked, except that the people who were running it were not doing it right, and we know how to do it right but we're going to do it in Africa on land that belongs to other people.

stay safe.
