Title: 71 Year Old with Gun Thwarts Armed Robbery
Post by: Ben on July 17, 2012, 06:13:18 PM
Sorry it's the crappy Blaze site with all the crap running in the background, but the video is worth watching, as is reading the synopsis of the interview with the robbers. "We weren't goin' to hurt nobody".

The video really ought to have "Yackety Sax" as it's soundtrack.

Huh. One source says he's 71, the other says 63. Good shooting, either way! Tagged them both and got the job done.  :police:

I thought that if you shot them with a .380 it would, like .25apc, just make them angry and they would take it away with you.  Maybe coyotes and robbers are not getting that memo any more?

stay safe.

No, the punks are just getting wimpier. They survived, which means the .380 is not good enough for self-defense. A .45 would have pureed their insides into a fine goo, before blowing their bodies apart.

A larger caliber wouldn't have made much difference with the shot placement he got, but with better placement and a better caliber, he might have saved the taxpayers some money.

A hit with a .22 is better than a miss with a .45.

Yes, considering that a whole lot of these stories (even with cops) involve no one getting shot, I'd say he did good.

Also, a 380 in your pocket is better than a 45 ACP out in the car.

If you go back to Ben's Blaze post they have an update, it contains an interview of one of the bad guys.  The good guy evidently shot one of the bad guys in the butt/hip area.

Or maybe he just didn't hear about the ammo recall. http://www.theonion.com/video/manufacturer-recalls-hollow-point-bullets-that-fai,14319/

***************************

Seriously, all kidding aside, the old guy (he looks more 71 than 63 in the video) did well - he was seated in back, facing the door, kept his situational awareness, and when he saw his  chance, he came out shooting; none of this "Freeze and drop your gun" stuff with two perps involved. He didn't stop, he kept shooting until the threat was over and the perps were in full, panicked retreat. In this case, the little gun and his "combat mindset" were enough to win the day. Thumbs up.

I need some of those .45 rounds.  Can you recommend a specific type?  Preferably something with 'Zombie' in the name?

Shot in the butt by an old guy. He'll do quite well in the general prison population. :)

Obviously he was racially profiling. They were just practicing for a school play and meant no harm.

He's lucky that didn't happen in Palm Beach County.  They would have arrested him for firing shots at the robbers while they were fleeing.

According to this (http://www.examiner.com/article/the-mouse-gun-that-roared) it was a Taurus TCP.

I'm a bit worried for the guys family, his facebook page has links you can follow to his grand kids still in highschool and other family members.
If I could find it in ten minutes of looking perhaps friends/family of  the bad guys could to, and maybe they harbor ill will.

That can't be!  According to the innernetz, the only thing Taurus is good for is being shipped to and from Miami for repair right out of the box.  They aren't supposed to actually work.

Old guys, years and years beyond caring what anyone thinks.  White socks, bermuda shorts pulled high, pink Taurus .380. >:D

My 605 is usually somewhere close by.  I've never had a problem I wasn't the cause of.  I sort of want to take a look at a TCP, now.  Except my hands are probably, practically, too big.  (Glock 19 is a 2.5 finger grip gun for me.)

^^^ I am thrilled with my TCP.  I got it in stainless and carry it on the bicycles.  I also have five Taurus revolvers and not one of them ever let me down or needed repair.
