Want so very, very badly indeed. All it needs is a couple of cupolas up on opposite corners of the roof for the application of boiling oil and .50 cal rounds below.

No, but they don't need to breathe and can walk underwater.
-
And if you attract enough zombies, they can stumble, crowd, and actually pile high enough to actually start to scale walls etc.
However, if it's summer/hot weather, there's going to be "peak zombies" then they'll taper off as healthy individuals to get fresh infections taper off, and the infected all rot to the point they have no mobility anymore.

Turrets. Needs turrets.
Then perfect.
Particularly if the roof was reinforced and you imported soil for a garden and chicken coop.

See my post just above.
There's existing formulas out there for calculating zombie pile-up and "corpse ramping" already.
Surviving the Zpoc is a lot like a fallout shelter. You wait for x half-lives of the fallout before you emerge, and in the same way, you need to wait on corpse decay so that 99% of them are not a threat anymore.
Shooting and defense activity draws more zombies too...

How do you get out with zombies piled up on the hatch?

True APS fashion DET CORD.

Hope you remembered to stockpile the rubber boots and rain slickers.

OP house is a fail, ground floor windows. Or at least follow the cartoon and line up treadmills in front of the windows to achieve zombie powered off-grid living.

Did you miss the ballistic window shutters?

You use the other one.
Although seriously, good bunker/shelter designs all have alternate exits. And even tertiary ones. Or things like a tunnel full of sand, and a sump underneath the sand can fall into as you empty the emergency exit etc.
And you usually have a stash of multi-ton hydraulic bottle jacks, chains, come-alongs, I-beams etc. to force your way clear.

Yep, my pictuur comprehunching is worser den my readin.
Still, no flaming moat, it needs help.

zombies piled up
Flame-thrower ;)
The house I want would have no doors or windows in the 10' thick stone walls on the ground floor. There would be a narrow set of steps going up the outside of one wall, ending in a small landing with no railing in front of the door, which is to the right so that it is awkward for a right handed person coming up the stairs. Leaves no room to mount a battering ram attack on the door itself, and there would be a window/balcony above from which to rain down all sorts of nasty stuff on unwelcome visitors.
Aren't I a social person ? >:D =D
-
Over time, there will be enough destroyed zombies to create a ramp for active zombies to reach you.
NOT if you build the OP house on a pedestal about three miles out to sea. =D Destroyed zombies float away with current. No ramp. Amy safe.

Is that the Castle Arrrrrrrrrrggggghhhhhhh?
Also you don't take out the zombie's when they are right at your windows. You take them out at long range, therefore they don't pile up right at your fortress.

Oooh, see 'Texas Towers' for possible problems with this concept: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_Towers
Amy has frowny face as she is blown off to who knows where.

Copies of the 'Watchtower' come immediately to mind and are in keeping with the castle keep theme.

Many thanks for activating the evil centers of RocketMan's brain. Adios, troublesome garden critters! Muwhahahahaha!

Sealand is pretty cool, and shows that the concept of these kind of structures in protected waters may have a future. I am guessing that the weather in the English Channel is not as bad as you see elsewhere. Exposed to Gulf of Mexico, North Sea or Atlantic gales or hurricanes, not so much, perhaps.

Off on another famous APS tangent...Cold War history is absolutely FASCINATING. The crazy stuff that was invented is stunning.

<Snort> That's because they let the Air Force design/build/maintain it. >:D
