Title: Civil Disobedience Hero
Post by: AZRedhawk44 on September 25, 2012, 01:54:20 PM
http://www.animalnewyork.com/2012/wanted-drone-poster-artist-discusses-how-he-punked-the-nypd/

This guy is going around NYC and making creative alterations to pro-guv AgitProp posters that are meant to make New York residents feel all warm and fuzzy about NYPD drones.

(https://armedpolitesociety.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fcontent.animalnewyork.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2FNYPD_drone_posters.jpg&hash=43acf94dcd1b3c4ad79b80b95e462bd47568335d)

NYPD is trying to find him, for obvious reasons.

I say, keep it up dude.

If all the guy did was add the missile, the poster didn't need any help to be perceived of as less than warm and fuzzy. What moron decided a family being chased by a Predator would instill confidence in the NYC .gov?

Actually, I take it back.  I read the article again, and what they are doing is driving around in a van marked as the company responsible for the kiosk advertising (Van Wagner), and opening the kiosks and putting in new posters.

I still say, have at it.  Though it is trespass against private property (the kiosk advertising space which is not owned by NYPD, the target of the operation).

Look closer. That is definitely not the only alteration. Whole new poster, apparently.

Ah, that makes a lot more sense. The .gov is so similar to The Onion these days, I can no longer separate satire from reality.

Excellent work.

I love the loop the missile makes... it denotes a certain wild carelessness. As if it was fired willy-nilly, set off on its own to seek out a random target.

Run peasants! Run!

The actual posters are pretty scary. Straight up Communist style propaganda.

When private business partners with .gov, I say their property is no longer completely private.

Keep up the good work, civil disobedience man.

New York, New York, it's a wonderful town.
The cameras are up, and the crime rate is down,
They hide from the drones in a hole in the ground,
New York, New York!

This guy probably has 100x more resources hunting him down than the Boston tea party mob had back then.

If there was a paypal or chip-in location to send him gas money, I'd do it in a heartbeat.  But he'd be caught if such a thing existed.  I have no connection and wish I did, so I COULD help him.

We have a similar situation here in town.  You may or may not have heard about the federal investigation into a bunch of rapes at the University of Montana, the football team, and possible efforts by the campus and city police to cover things up.  This guy spray painted a "Rape Nation" spoof of the "Griz Nation" fan logo on various public buildings and bridges in town.  He was caught doing it by a surveillance camera and arrested.

In this case, I think the guy is wrong if for no other reason than this is real vandalism with real costs to the city to clean up.  I agree with him that what happened at the U is wrong but it is mostly being handled.  A number of folks lost their jobs, several griz players were arrested, and I'm sure the justice department is making life hell for the two police departments.  The only thing that has not happened is the head of the U needs to be canned.  He threw his subordinates under the bus when it appears he knew what was going on.

I think you may be underestimating the weight of propaganda and counter propaganda, especially at this point in time where molding the public's view of the Rulers is the main battleground. Action can only follow awareness.

If there was a way to anonymously donate to him, I'd support a "Phase II" where he started making actual municipal quality signs from aluminum plate and the proper 3M glass bead retroreflective paints, and bolted them to random light and traffic poles.  >:D
