Title: Watched a really nice movie last night
Post by: White Horseradish on November 21, 2012, 11:52:09 AM
World's Fastest Indian

Been meaning to see it for a while. Anthony Hopkins and motorcycles sounded like a winning combination to me. And it is. Also, Burt Munro was a pretty amazing character. And it's not often you see a movie that manages to be nice without descending into saccharine.

Thanks. I'd seen the title previously and passed it by. I'll check it out.

It is a good movie, and I like his approach to lawn mowing, too.

One of my favorites.  Almost want to plant a lemon tree in the yard, just to water it...   =D

That is a great movie. Everybody should have a copy of it in their collection.  ;)

Great story. A friend of mine goes to Bonneville every year with his record holding salt car. He was telling me about a character he met there several years ago that knew Munroe. His stories were a little more in-depth than the movie. The events in the movie are all supposed to be true but occurred over the course of multiple trips to run on the salt.

For those that aren't familiar with it the whole history of the salt flats is very interesting. Some serious crazy people pushing their machines at risk of life and limb. Rollie Free will be my idol till the day I die.

I think anyone who loves speed has an idol that has run at the Bonneville Salt Flats. Mine is Sonny Angel. I used to sit around in his motorcycle dealership in National City, CA with him figuring out ways to make my Norton go faster. He had some great ideas. :)
