Title: Help me find: Hunter S. Thompson motorcycle essay
Post by: Felonious Monk/Fignozzle on July 06, 2006, 04:26:09 PM
Okay, I remember vaguely reading a story written (I'm pretty sure) by gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson about a motorcycle ride through the California valley at like, 3am or something.

With that little to go on, can any of you help me out with a link?
Thanks,
Fig

It's been nearly 30 years since I read the book, but I'm pretty certain that it's part of Hunter Thompson's "Hells Angels."

There is definatly an excellent passage in Hell's Angels detailing a ride that is very much like what you describe aboard his BSA. It is extraordinarily well writen and one of my favorite parts of that book, or any HST writing.

Yup, it's "Hell's Angel's". I used that book for typing class in 7th grade.

Before, at least according to the book, which details the beating in a postscript.

If he hadn't tried to screw the Angels out of their beer, he would have been ok.

Okay, so it's a passage from his "Hell's Angels".

I KNOW I read that passage online, since I have not (yet) read the book.
Is there ANY chance that one of you might cite me a link to the passage?

It was when I was sort of knocking around the idea of becoming a new rider.
It *might* have even been during a discussion of bikes when the Roundtable existed.

Ya know, as I recall, some of the best things I've ever read were a part of that.
I wish we could at least post it as archival stuff here or...somewhere.
But, I digress.  Sorry.

Anybody a better sleuth than I am with this?
