Early this morning (15th), a cleaner stole a train outside Stockholm and took it for a joyride. It eventually came to a complete stop...right into someone's living room :O.

Fortunatly, no one was killed or injured except for the woman who stole it. Lotsa bones broken...
-
That will buff right out.
-
Figures it was a woman. Couldn't even steer a train...
-
A train-jacking? That doesn't even happen here in Detroit!

More like just too dopey to know better.

That track is damn close to those houses.
-
So did they have a high speed train chase? Did they follow it with a helicopter to make sure it didn't lose them?
-
That track is damn close to those houses.
Yep. Apparently it's a feature rather than a bug, considering the prices of those apartments.

You talk about women like that? I guess they don't call you "Fistful" for nuthin'...... [popcorn]

How much per month?

Woman couldn't drive and she missed the kitchen.
-
You da man.

They're not rentals, they're what referred to here as "bostadsrätt". You don't buy the apartment as such, you buy a share in the association owning the building(s) (which you can later sell to someone else when you want to move), which also gives you the right to live in one of the apartments. A monthly fee will often need to be paid for upkeep (exceptions may apply for buildings say in the middle of say Stockholm, where the ground floors can often be for commercial use, thus providing income for the association from rentals). I saw the asking price of one of those apartments in the building right next to it - 14 million krona. More than 2 million dollars. And that's the opening bid...
-
Aha! We call them cooperatives (for short, a coop, but sometimes with the apostrophe, as in co-op). Current residents get to vote on admitting any new resident.
I guess the "feature" aspect comes from the European way of looking at public transportation and providing it as convenient, reliable, and taking you just about anywhere you want to go, as popposed to the American plan for moving the lowest of the drone classes from their hovels to the salt mines and back again without exposing them to the aristocracy.

How do you get a train to turn off the tracks? Was it just too fast or is it some weird case of ice forming across the tracks?

From what I've understood, it hasn't turned off the tracks - it's the end station, and those apartments are very close to where the tracks end. Someone estimated the train travelled maybe 25-30 meters off the tracks after it plowed right off them, through the stopper-thingy at the end.

I see, so the lesson is don't build your house behind a stop sign.
-
But the view is simply magnificent!
Even moreso now for one family.

There are some locations with homes built that you really scratch your head and wonder at the logic.
Out in the mountains there is a nice house built in the "U" of a fairly steep, large switchback of the road.
I can't quite comprehend how they have not had a car crash through the roof yet...
-
Where we're going, we don't need any tracks =D

I guess she didn't quite make it to 88 miles per hour.

Women should wear white, like all of the other kitchen appliances....... =D

I bet she's a blonde.
But did she have more fun? Now that is the question.

Yeah, till she put someone's home out.

So, the real problem is that she ran the train into the living room instead of the kitchen ???

Hm. All charges against her has been dropped now, and the company that runs the trains, and the company that owns the tracks (I think...) has said they're deeply sorry and that they'll do everything they can to restore her "honor and credibility". Curious...

So... the train took off with her aboard but she had nothing to do with it? ???

Nothing is known yet, but there is some speculation as to how, in which she had something to do with it, although only by accident, made possible by some spectacularly bad decisions made by others...
1: the guy who is responsible for bringing the train to and from maintenance (or something, I'm not entirely sure about job responsibilites in rail yards) left the keys in, engine running, and emergency brakes disconnected/non-functioning.
2: Dead man's grip disconnected for some reason (confirmed by investigators)
3: cleaner accidentally hits switch/button/lever that starts the train, does not realize this until too late. Maybe she thought the guy mentioned in (1) had started the train.
I got to ad that I feel incredibly sorry for her. Just two months in on a badly paid job, and she get seriously injured because of laziness/complacency/comfort. =|

It's not uncommon on a new job for things to not go well at first.
-
Thought I should update this thread: the young lady who was initially suspected of having stolen the train and who got injured in the crash is now considering changing her career...she wants to be a - drumroll - train driver . The company operating that line offered her a job doing that if she gets through school for it, so good for her =).

Wait...what?!? :O

But she'll have more experience than any other graduate.
stay safe.

Anyone see the newest Dox Equis commercial?
"He once parallel parked a train. He's the most interesting man in the world..."
Maybe she can aspire to that.

#2 is enough to throw the company under the er, train. Dead man's grip being disconnected should not happen outside of the maintenance area. IF it is broken, it needs to be going directly to nearest maintenance area under direct supervision of qualified personnel at all times.

I'm not sure why it was disconnected, but I guess the investigation will reveal this at some point. I hope she got a bit of money for her suffering and injuries and also the slander...
