This could be good, or bad. Either way, it will probably be entertaining. :)

I agree

Can we have him give the Republican response? >:D

Can we have him give the Republican response? >:D
He couldn't possibly do any worse, and the media couldn't just ignore him.
-
I can't see him attending for any other reason than to make a scene. He's so great for our image. ;/
-
Really?
The Nuge has done a lot more to support and promote 2A than the majority of people on this forum.
He even took Jim Zumbo, whom we all pretty much wrote off as a hopeless FUDD, out for AR-15 live-fire familiarization.

He has also done it a lot more damage.
While I love the Nudge for all his crazy rock and roll ways, he has been a bit more of a liability at times.
Sometimes, as much as the family loves that crazy old uncle, you just want to stick him in closet and avoid the embarassment.
-
There is a time and place for Ted Nugent. He does well against the likes of that wanker Piers Morgan. I do think that there are other people out there that represent gun owners better in more serious venues, but the media just isn't interested in them. "The Nuge" gets ratings, hence most of the attention, for better or for worse.

This +10∞....
-
Really?
Really.
-
I prefer the Nuge to kooks like Alex Jones, but I think there are plenty of other better ambassadors for gun rights.
-
Former Arizona Democratic Rep Gabrielle Giffords, severely injured in a 2011 mass shooting, and husband Mark Kelly will be special guests of Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain and Democratic Rep. Ron Barber, who also was injured in the Giffords' shooting and won her seat in November.
I'm finding less and less use for McCain all the time.
-
Considering the strong possibility spinelessrepublicans will cave on at least background checks for all transfers, perhaps the Nuge is the perfect spokes person for the opposition. He will articulate outrage far more effectively than Pratt or Lapierre.
-
Nuge is great when firing up the pro-RKBA base. Not as great convincing fence-sitters.
-
Pretty soon there will be no fence. Any in the middle with a shred of ability to think for themselves have probably bought a gun in the last few months. The rest? Screw'em. I kind of like Terrible Ted. At the very least he is a handy trip wire, no way I'm higher on the list than he is.
-
People like to say Nugent is crazy...
Anyone care to point out a crazy thing he's done?
Other than played rock and roll.

Not so much crazyness but definatly some stuff that doesn't help the image of "responcible gun owner"

*sigh* my very liberal boss was an eager beager to bring this story up when it came out.

Meh. Some of the folks who dislike nugent have done much worse. Color me unimpressed.

Yeah, but they don't always manage to make national news with there screw ups.

Well, of course not.
Media slams of Nugent are not enough to make me think he's hurting our cause. If anything, the way the media portrays him means they've selected him as an enemy, which means he's effective.
The media, the left, they all say he's crazy. I was just wondering if anyone knew why, that's all. Filling a bear tag by wounding one is bullshit. The bear survived. The one he took SHOULD have been legal. Hunting rules are mostly retarded.
-

There were better ambassadors, but that was in a different time when we were not dealing with the baldfaced kind of gun-grabbing tyranny we are today.
We don't need a lot more Good Quiet Men like John Boehner and Mitch McConnell and Eric Cantor and the rest. We need fighters. Same applies to everything else going on. Politics is theater.

We arn't talking about the people who see this and doubt the media spin. We arn't talking about people who understand how retarded hunting laws are.
We are talking about Dick and Jane Average Liberal, who've never touched a gun, don't really like guns and don't see what the big deal is when polititions talk about gun control.
Seeing someone like the Nuge breaking hunting laws and equating him with all gun owners is not particularly great. Now they don't just not see why not ban guns, they have a reason for it.
This is where the media and the liberal agenda have the advantage (and have always had the advantage) they "look" better to that wide swath of middle that doesn't really care one way or the other, but still has a vote.
National news spends all their time busting Ted Nugent for his hunting boo boos, throughs in a tidbit about him being a "Pro Second Amendment and Hunting Advocate" and people think his mistakes are representations of that. What they don't hear about is all the good things he has done and supported.
*shrug* I like Uncle Ted. I think he's a hoot and his commentary on the upcoming SOU should be a riot. It doesn't change the fact that this is someone who represents us and I can't help but  when his hijinxs arn't very flattering.

I don't know that he's crazy, but he pops off with a lot of adolescent blubber that fulfills many of the stereotypes the left already believes in.
-
Calling Ted Nugent a flawed messenger is an understatement.
He doesn't represent me at all, I agree with him on the gun issue and enjoy some of his music and that is as far as that goes.
The way he has lived his life is a target rich environment for anyone who wants to discredit him and the positions he holds.

Hmmm. thanks. Never heard the draft dodger one before.
WHat a *expletive deleted*head.
-
hes a flawed human. i can't say much i am also flawed. just not in those particular ways. not sure about his draft story. ted mighta been bs'ing. i've known other guys to fib about things like that. at that time it was a matter of great shame not to serve for many. he might prefer his story to some other truth

Well, they don't call him the Motorcity Mad Man for nothing.
CSD forgot the mess with the 17 year old Hawian girl.
But I think Uncle Ted's biggest issue is that he just doesn't seem to have a filter between his brain and his mouth. The results can be funny, but not very wise.

i didn't forget i just was 32 and dating a 19 year old so i kept quiet. i had her folks permission but did not get myself declared her guardian
-
I don't care much about the 17 year old (Isn't the age of consent in hawaii like 15?), and I don't care much about the bear.
One thing i can't abide is a draft dodger.
-

Well, when it comes to age, sometimes three years really does make a diffrence.
19 doesn't need a gardian (or permission to marry, for that matter)

Well put.

fistful agreed with me?
:O
Oh dear lord, I need a drink and hug.
-
It is irritating to me having to redirect the discussion away from Ted's antics when discussing the human right of self defense and the second amendment with anti's or the uninformed.
I appreciate his efforts on the subject and overall it outweighs the negatives most likely.
He just unfortunately is a loose cannon and somewhat divisive. He is no role model or someone to emulate. He comes off as more of a media caricature than actual person and that can distract from the seriousness of the issue.
-
As someone mentioned above, I think Nugent works very well in head to heads with people like Piers Morgan or Chris Mathews, or even, in the right setting, "telling it like it is" Nugent style regarding politicians like Pelosi and Schumer. There are some venues where telling someone to "kiss my ass" is sometimes the right thing to do, such as in an interview with Piers Morgan. I think he also works well firing up gunowners, like at NRA events.
I don't think he works well at events like press conferences, or say, post State of the Union interviews. My one fear is that being in the audience at the address, that he shouts something out while Obama is speaking. Would definitely not look good.
-
Ted is "a brand" first and foremost and supporting gun ownership is part of that brand.
Hopefully he will keep the cause in mind in instances where what is best for Ted "The Brand" is not necessarily best for the cause.

This. As an entertainer, his behavior is tied to a persona. As an individual, he may advocate a view I agree with, but the wacky persona dilutes or misdirects it. In that respect he is a potential liability to serious argument.
-
Ted's negatives or positives aside, what is the point of attending a speech by the leader of the occupation forces?
-
Keep your enemies closer.
-
Recon?
Maintaining a presence?
Visual reminder that he didn't get 100% of the electoral or popular vote?
-
I may actually watch or listen to this one.

No way in hell I'm gonna watch this in real time. I'd rather read the postmortems. Not as likely to [barf] or throw something at the teevee.

I don't know, might liven things up a bit. I think we treat these occasions with a sense of gravity and respect that they simply aren't due. The SOTUA tends to be fairly meaningless, and at this point is nothing but a giant media circus, except all the clowns are wearing three-piece suits. I think it'd be vastly better if the crowd was more...interactive. >:D

I kind of wanted to see what he would say about gun control.
I just turned it off. It's mostly, uhh, "hooey." Something that my Dad the dairy and pig farmer would say gave off the "Smell of money".
And Preacherman's still depressing (http://bayourenaissanceman.blogspot.com/2013/02/more-economic-warning-signs.html).

I keep hearing about them but I aint met a whole lot of fence sitters. Most everybody I run into has strong feelings one way or the other.

And cue Obama tap-dancing the body of a dead girl....
-
I listened for about 15 minutes, in which I figure he came up with about a half trillion dollars worth of "investments". I then gave up and just let the DVR buffer run and came back to fast forward to the gun control part, which was easy to spot because you knew he was gonna have Giffords there. He managed to make himself look like a fire and brimstone preacher on his call for a vote.
-
Why do I get a headache by watching this dishonest drivel? Maybe it's due to the hyper concentrated human refuse and their incessant yes-man clapping... the people responsible for executing the ruin of a Nation all packed in the same room... damn.
-
. . . He managed to make himself look like a fire and brimstone preacher on his call for a vote.
He reminded me more of some banana republic dictator or president-for-life with a personality cult . . .

Actually an opinion piece this morning got it right. Not a dictator (except for the gun control part, which I wholeheartedly agree was cult-like). Santa Claus. He was giving a list of all the presents all the little kiddies would get for perennial Obama Christmas. He just failed to mention the part where elves don't actually make the gifts, the parents do.

Aside from timing (Santa only brings presents one a year vs. once a month/daily) that's an excellent analogy, with free goodies coming out of nowhere so long as you behave as Santa tells you.

I've met a lot of folks who aren't terribly political and don't have strong opinions on most political topics. But since they tend not to talk politics (because they don't care, or because they don't like conflict with the folks who do care) they tend to not be noticed. And of course good old selection bias...
