Title: 3 out of four NY law enforcement agencies are ignoring the new law.
Post by: geronimotwo on February 21, 2013, 12:51:05 PM
i have been taking a voluntary polling of local police.  thus far the only ones on record for following the new firearm laws are the state troopers.  for those of you who haven't been following this our ny governor just enacted a new law that limits the maximum rounds in a magazine to 7.  he also forgot to make a provision exempting law enforcement from said law.  i have been making a point of asking when i see a uniformed officer as to the state of their magazine and, aside from the nyst, every one of them has stated they are at full capacity.  scofflaw practitioners.   [barf]

if this were a just law i would have no problem with doing that.  as i think the law unconstitutional,  i am unable to bring myself to make that phone call.  after all, they are citizens as well, even if in uniform.

That's the point, they're citizens just like you and must follow the law.  You can't let them continue to act as a protected class.  They wouldn't let you slide on it.  Hopefully, the point will get across and the law will be struck down when the King's men are harassed enough.

That's okay.  3 out of 4 New Yorkers are also ignoring it.

Victimless law.  What a farce.

Are you telling us that NY State Troopers are downloading mags to 7 rounds because of this crap...I mean law?  I am truly shocked that any are doing this.

Does downloading mags even bring them in compliance with the law? I don't think it does, so what's the point?

If it holds more than 10, it's illegal.
If it holds 8-10, and you owned it before the new law went into effect, you can keep it but don't load more than 7 at once
If it's 7 or less, it's ok.

This, and this again.  Apply it fully as far as it will reach, good & hard.  Especially on those who are supposed to enforce laws.

Wow, what a bunch of starry-eyed optimists...

Then only effect calling them on it will have is a modification to the law to add the LEO exemption

Some freedom loving New York cop should arrest a few officers for this

Yup.  Politically, they are a protected class.

On the flip side, if they won't abide, they won't enforce, either.  ;)

Agreed. If they are refusing to enforce the same law they are breaking, then they are our friends and we should support them because they support us.

If they are enforcing the law but not abiding by it, then pull the outraged citizen on their behinds and give them (and their department) holy hell as loudly as you can.

It'll further underscore the fact that they're not like us, they're more equal.

I don't buy it for a second.

I'm with Chris. I would be leery of counting on "we're not obeying so we're not enforcing". Maybe if there was documentation from the various CLEOs like the Sheriff letters that recently circulated. Otherwise it could just as easily be various CLEOs telling their officers to ignore the law "for officer safety" but having them enforce it because "it's the law".

Ha!  I doubt the average street cop knows the details of the new law. They will do what they are told.

Yep, when they are told to "bring in the burners" you can bet they will burn the place the down. For the children and officer safety of course.

when asked, the trooper told me the order came directly from the state police commisioner.

Sorry folks, but I remember the "National Police Carry" thing...

"Support us on this! It's a good step towards National Reciprocity, and we'll back you up too!"

Since it's been passed, I would say the Cuban insurgents got more support from Kennedy than we have from the LEO groups for true national reciprocity...

State Troopers have generally been required to set an example.  It is not an easy club to join.  Local law enforcement not so much...   I suspect you will see selective enforcement of the magazine ban and when enforcement happens it will be reported in the press and touted how this is reducing crime.
