Title: 1996 LeSabre - where is the fuse box?
Post by: richyoung on August 11, 2006, 10:09:22 AM
Ok - I found some large fues and relays under the hood, and I found a very small, uncovered fuse box behind the glove box, but I still haven;t found the main fuse panel - anybody know where it is & how to get to it?  I need to get my mirros and cigar lighter socket working...

Well, I'm not sure about the 96 LeSabre but, I have a 94 Bonneville, and the fuses are under the dash right about where your left knee would be. Small panel which just pops open.

On newer cars there are usually two, one under the hood someplace and one in the cabin. The one in the glove compartment is probably the cabin one, look around for a box under the hood with a cover that clips or screws on, possibly with a visible wiring harness coming out of it. There may also be another in the cabin if the one you saw just had a few fuses in it, check under the dash both sides.

If you have an owners manual, it will tell you.

On my 94 park avenue it was also by the left knee area. It was hard to see as there was a panel over it that matched the interior color.

Alas, bought it used - no owner's manual.  I bought a Chilton's - no help at all.  The dog peed on the book, and I thought it was a fitting editorial comment.  I found the one under the hood - its not the one I need.  The one in the glove box was tiny - had the horn fuse, but only few others.  There HAS to be another one, as much electrical stuff is in this buggy...

I forwarded this to a friend whose mother has a LeSabre, around that year...  maybe he will be able to offer assistance.

According to the Mitchell manuals the driver's side fuse box is located under driver's side of the instrument panel, to the left of the steering wheel.
These diagrams should help you out a bit:

fixed the cig lighter - mirrors still down - I think the mechanic that replaced the driver's window motor may have accidentally unpluggged the controller - will wait for cooler weather to pull door panel.
