Title: What's your favorite monster and why?
Post by: Guest on August 11, 2006, 12:04:54 PM
Yet another posting which reflects how much free time I have at the moment....

My personal favorite are the zombies.  I like them as they are a real danger, they will eat your brains, but some proper planning pretty much brings the threat level to a reasonable level.  I of course am speaking of the classic zombies ala Night of the Living Dead. Zombies do not run!  I often times will pass time in idle conversation concerning zombie attack escape plans.  Zombie prep is much more laborious as I'm now in the city.

Perhaps the greatest part of the zombie mythos is its easy adaptability to parable form.  Great way to address deeper underlying sociological concerns.  Altho the werewolf is great for that too.

What keeps the rest of you up at night?

Devils and Demons

I laughed my ass off when the "Exorcist". came out.

I really never was "scared" even as little boy. First time someone snuck up on me in sheet, and went "boo" I kicked them in the nuts. This was not even Halloween and mean bigger kids were picking on me. My Uncle just laughed.

Only time I ever got scared at the movies, was "Jaws".  Same girlfriend I went to so the "Exorcist" with. She laughed too.
"Jaws", well we were fooling around as folks did in Theatres back them, let loose from a lip-lock in time to see that head come rolling out and we jumped. We were caught off guard.

"Cujo" ?  Nope done been in a situation having to shoot a rabid dog. Name  any of the scary movies, I laugh.  I still laugh hardest  at the Devil and Demons .

Yeah I still get a tear when Old Yeller dies ...

---

I don't have a TV, but the last time I saw Hillary Clinton on TV and heard that voice , that was scary, she makes Carrie and The Wicked Witch of the East look like Hooter's gals.

Godzilla - probably because it was the first monster I remember (other than Cookie Monster, who was pretty cool, too)
the Blob - just some real spooky stuff that got your ass when you weren't looking . . . oh, and your gun is worthless
the 50 Ft. Woman - definitely the most attractive monster

Skunk Ape: this can be EASILY arranged. Did you want those with holy symbols, or as hollow points? If you're willing to pay for casting and materials, I'll do the waxes! Wink

The monster I have most interest in is Grendel, the villain from the Beowulf poem. Hideous, ravenous, invulnerable to bladed weapons, and if you read the book 'Grendel', he is rather philosophical. Unlike other monsters, he is a (semi)rational creature.

I'm afraid I have never had much respect for zombies. Tongue

Damn those pics are SCARY!! I think I'll be hiding under my bed now...

MY favorite monster was the one in a little movie called "Terrorvision". First he would pop up on the TV behind a person so they couldn't see him, then he would magically appear IN THE ROOM!! THEN he would latch on to you and apparently injected you with something that made you dissolve into a puddle on the floor then  his moplike tongue would flop out and sop you up. LOL...

First runner up WOULD be Godzilla though. Cheesy

I've spent too many years of my life confronting terrorism "up close and personal", and too many more years working with high-security prison inmates, to worry about Hollywood monsters.  When you've seen the real thing, the fake variety is just too tame . . .

Oh, favorite not most bothersome.  For a favorite I'll go with the conversational Smaug lounging on his treasure.

Preacher has it right. Once you've sat in the same room as a real monster, looked one in the eye, felt the stare knowing that the monster would do unthinkable things to you if he or she could, the movies ain't so scary.  And, yes, that's why, even in court, I carried when I was a prosecutor.  Just in case the monster decided to act...

In the fictional vein, I find myself drawn to the vampires.  not that I want to be one, I just find the whole vampire/goth culture facinating.

My favorite monster?

Gotta be Sweetums. Smiley

The monster I'm afraid of the most?
Clowns.  Espcially half-rotted, zombie clowns.  If I ever have to encounter one (normal, evil clown or undead clown), I demand that I have a Remington SP-10, loaded with 3.5" slugs.

*shudder* Shocked Ugh.

Edit: Evil clowns that throw spiders and are armed with circular saws.  At that point, the only gun of any use to me would be an MG-42 with 20,000 rounds of ammo (to make sure they're gone) with a flame thrower nearby.

Edit 2: The only true real-life intelligent enemy I have a fear of, believe it or not, is a sniper.  Never been in combat, and even used to live with one.  Great guy, too.  However, the thought of me walking along, and then dying without the slightest chance of self-defense or warning, greatly worries me.  I wouldn't even have time to get pissed.  No rezzing the Almighty and accusing the sniper of h4x. Sad
