Thank $diety it's confined to a small island off New Zealand.
Firehand at http://elmtreeforge.blogspot.com/2013/08/how-often-do-you-see-bug.html asks if .22LR would be enough. Based on several sci-fi films I watched as a youngster I'd say lifting off and nuking it from orbit may not be sufficient.
