Title: California AB711 signed into law - no lead bullets?
Post by: Gewehr98 on September 11, 2013, 01:50:11 PM
I don't know the particulars other than that it is now illegal to use lead bullets for hunting.

Except for, all the bullets that I know of save for homogenous solids (Barnes) and steel core (AP, also illegal) are copper jacketed with lead cores.

Am I going to set up a shop in Nevada to sell bullets, incandescent light bulbs, and high-flow Fergusons to Californians now?

I was just getting ready to send some 8mm Mauser cast bullet handloads to my father-in-law in Redding so he could enjoy his 98K Mauser.   =(

Send the mauser rounds.  Your FIL will probably use them at the range.

CAGFD would have to catch someone using lead-based ammunition while hunting, for this to have any effect.

Frankly, my AZ-based inner anarchist says to just use whatever ammo shoots best from your hunting firearm.  You have eons of time between when a GFD enforcer is spotted and he comes up to talk to you.  Shuffle out your good ammo for a couple rounds of Barnes stuff in your pocket.  When he leaves, continue hunting.

Unless, of course, FedEx or UPS decides they won't ship based on the new prohibition there.

Hunting != shooting.

Do you even have to declare contents when shipping assembled cartridges?

The stupid law is hunting only. As of now, you can still shoot lead at the range, or even go into the national forest and blast lead at targets all day long 100 yards from somebody's duck blind. There are a bunch of really totalitarian bills up for signing this week. From what I've read, Calgun lawyers seem to think if all of them are signed, that it will create something bigger than Heller. I'm not getting my hopes up.

Thanks for the additional info, Ben.

Off to FedEx, before they change their mind out there!

Good idea - because the other bill up for signing is banning mail order and having ammo buying permits.

Jefferson should form, and secede.  I'd move there.

I am smack dab on the border, I am so close I could spit in Cali, that's how close I am.  If Jefferson were to form, I'd petition to be annexed.  Nevada is just polluted with too many californians. ;/

Why did i have to grow up in such a cruddy state? I finally have a decent living and make enough to afford some of the guns i've always wanted, and now it will all be gone just as fast as it came. :'(

Got this from a West LA NRA meeting email.
