Title: What do you pay for water and sewer?
Post by: never_retreat on May 06, 2014, 06:51:59 PM
So this only applies to people on town water and sewer. I get billed $325 per quarter for both.
I was talking to someone the other day and it seems high? What is the APS consensus?
We have no water meters so supposedly everyone in the town gets the same bill.
Well let me rephrase that, when the town put water and sewers in in the 70's. Somewhere after that the realized that the meters were not accurate and had to be replaced. Instead of replacing them they went to flat billing.
I actually removed my meter because it began to leak. After I called the town to tell them it was leaking, there comment was remove it. Huh???
Thats when I learned of the flat billing.

$65/bimonthly.  Water comes from the city while sewage is at a county facility a couple of miles downwind as well as downhill.

The bill is combined, and the county tacks on a "pass-through" fee for pumping the water about a mile from the city boundary's closest main.  The cost of water in the county is less than city residents are being charged, and the county does daily quality tests while the city tests quarterly.

When I lived in the city twenty-mumble years ago the monthly bill was $35/water + $25/water.  $Diety knows what the taxes have brought that up to now.

stay safe.

Typically about $25 water (based on usage) and $45 sewer (flat) per month.

Ours this last month was $28.60 for water ($14.30) and sewer ($14.30).  That was for 2,980 gallons of water.  Our sewer charge is always the same as our water charge.

IDK what mine is to be honest but $108 a month average could be great if it is indeed flat and people can use water at will.

In Lebanon, OR, our water/sewer bills averaged $105 month.  Major rip-off due to town politics.  A long, long story.
We pay about $38 here in Hickory, NC.  Much better.

A lot more than what the OP pays.  Water is kinda spendy around here.

I pay approximately $ 150 every two months year round.  About $ 25 of that is for water and $ 125 of that is for sewer.  In an average month, we use about 5 cubic feet of water.

Hmmm... Seams were anywhere from dirt cheap to almost as  much as mine.
Might be because we have our own well/water tower and poop plant. I'm not sure of the exact number of connections but I would imagine its no more that 200 or so. The system only runs the town center. And its a one blinker light type of town.

Mine is about $60/month

$325 per quarter?

How many thousand gallons of water are you using?

I'm on Fairfax County, Virginia, water. I use between 5K and 7K gallons a quarter. Sewer is figured as a percentage multiplier based on your water (I think it's about 117% or something like that).

My bill rarely exceeds $60 for the quarter.

And yes, that's correct, I meant to say quarter.

You sure that's not 5 cubic yards? Or 5,000 cubic feet?

Some companies still measure in cubic yards.

5 cubic feet of water is a little under 40 gallons. I suspect you use a LOT more water than that.

Water and sewer is around $40 a month.

Will probably go up since the sewage treatment plant is older and slated for replacement, doesn't meet 1972 Clean Water Act and has been grandfathered since then.

About $180/quarter water and sewer combined.  We have some of the best water in the country. We have 2 adults, an almost 3 year old and a 7 week old.  Our sewer is also based on a percentage of our water and is determined during the winter months.

$30-40 a month. Higher amount in Summer when I'm putting water on the garden.  I'm on a septic system so no sewer bills.

our's is around $125/quarter.  8 years ago it was half of that, but they discovered that the pipes were starting to break down and needed replacing so they bumped the cost up to cover the infrastructure replacement.  out village also has it's own wells, tank and waste treatment facility.  we have around 1200 homes serviced.

About $60 per month but that includes some trash collection landfill fees and some bond revenue for system overhauls a few years ago and probably some other municipal revenue scams rolled into it.
Where I choose to live out in the sticks its all mine, well and septic. $17k for the well and $6k for the septic but mostly free forever after that. Makes $325 per quarter seem like a bargain.

Water, sewer, Trash, about $75 a month.

According to the budget, water averages $16.88 a month, sewer $18.76.

Looks like I've got a bargain. For the last 12 months, my total for water was $89.27, or $7.44 a month average. Sewer was $126.46, or $10.54 per month average. The utility company shows the actual usage for water, as well as actual usage for sewer. I don't know how they arrive at the sewer usage.

The water bill goes up to $9 to $17 in the summer depending upon the heat, as I have an in-ground sprinkler system that uses a lot of water.

flat billing?  no wonder your bill is so high, everyone else is making hydroelectric!

I actually tried to figure out if that would work, even just for emergency purposes.
Not enough flow out of a 3/4 line, and the pressure is not that great.
Its kind of counter productive anyway. The town does not have a generator at the well. So the fire department has to tow there 50KW generator up there and keep the holding tank filled. They usually top it up twice a day about 3-4 hours each time. I think there is 2-3 days of water in the tank.

Water - My little 'burb is the water company.  We get Lake Michigan water which is great, clean, treated water however Rahm has decided that the suburbs needs to support Chicago so we get hosed on water.  (I made a pun).  Last month I used 300 cubic feet.  (There's only the two of us here.)

Water Service fee: 9.38
Water Usage charge: 13.47
Sewer/Stormwater Service: 6.15
Total: 30.23

I'm on the Scout26 budget plan: I send them $35 per month.  I have a $94.23 credit balance.  I do this with all my bills, three months paid ahead.  That way should I either forget or have to go to Mayo, the utilities won't be shut-off in my absence.

Sewer
But wait.  I distinctly saw "sewer" list in there with your water bill, says you.  Ha!  This is Illinois where there are more .gov entities then cornfields.
We have a separate "Sanitary District" where all the who-ha goes to be processed before being dumped into the the west branch of the Dupage River.
The billed "usage" is for the exact same amount as my water every month.  In this case (and most months) 300 cu ft.  Which is completely wrong, because I dump 22-23 liters of additional fluid down the drain each night with dialysis.  (I'm getting over on the man!!!, Wait. What?  That's only 24 cu ft per month?  Ha !!   That's almost 300 extra free cu ft per year !!!   Yea!!!)  Anywho:
300 cu ft x 2.31 rate + 6.7 base charge = $13.68.

Again I have the Scout26 budget plan:  They get $15 per month.  Current credit balance is $97.25  Okay a bit more then 3 months.  But anyone want to take the chance of having their sewer cut off? [barf]

So I pay $50 per month.   Actual usage is closer to $40-45 per month.  Which for Lake Michigan water is well worth it, even though it could and should be cheaper, if Chicago didn't steal everything that wasn't nailed down, and sometimes even that stuff.

Do they actually have the means to isolate you from the sewer system?

Probably not, but who wants to test that theory?  ;) :P :P

Our water and sewer are handled by two separate towns...

Our water bill runs us about $50/month and is handled by the neighboring town. Our town handles our sewer/trash/street light bill - that's $50/quarter. It's ridiculous that we're paying for street lights. There's one in our subdivision.

Yeah, but it's a really nice light. ;)

I just looked at a receipt from when we lived in Milwaukee in 2010. Water was $42 for the last quarter, and sewer was $48. That's not as bad as Neemi, but it's not good.

Perhaps that street light was a Major Award?

I'm not even sure it's an actual street lamp... it's in somebody's yard. Right smack dab in the middle of their lawn.
